After an abysmal cowboy hat qual attempt inspired by the above, i came back to reality and ran a regular hat qual with an m2.0 core 5" ported gun and a holosun 407c.

Blew my previous pr out of the water with this 91 in 8.01. Pretty stellar end to a great session.

Today was my first time shooting with a pistol red dot and it went well I think.

I picked up a used HK VP9 Tactical OR the other week and a Holosun 507K at a decent price. After ordering new screws and installing with Loctite with 24 hour cure time I got the chance to shoot it for the first time today. At 7 yards with irons a 5-shot group was about quarter size with four rounds in one hole but an inch high. I had adjusted the windage on the 507K at home to line up with the irons and the POI was also a little high at 7 yards.

The first 5 shots at 25 yards were high and left with a vertical spread so I adjusted the elevation down but moved the windage in the wrong direction and fired two rounds. After adjusting again and firing another round (9 ring) and more minor adjusting I had my coworker shoot a 5 round group. This was only his second time shooting and first time at this distance and I was surprised how well he did. His groups at 7 yards with my G45 and factory plastic sights were worse than this 25 yard group with the VP9 and red dot.

We put up fresh targets and finished the box of ammo. My first 3 shots were on the X and I threw the 8th shot and ended with a 94 or 95-3X.

After only shooting 20-30 rounds with a dot I don't know why I waited this long. It's like on easy mode now.

I shot another 50 rounds through the VP9 yesterday (100 total since ownership) and was hoping to improve a little bit but results were about the same. I did a little bit of dry firing during the week and before going to the range I noticed that the dot was in the upper right quadrant of the window if the irons were lined up correctly and I'm not sure if that was normal or not. I was hoping to get a really good 25 yard group after fine tuning the dot and then try shooting at 50 yards but I wasn't shooting well/consistently enough.

First target was at 15 yards (5 rounds each) and I thought it was odd that it was about an inch left when I hadn't messed with the windage setting from last week.

I also wanted to see how much POI changes with a 15 yard zero but the elevation didn't seem to change.

Last 20 rounds. I think the target on the right would be a 99 or 100 with a little more windage adjustment.

Progression from today. The dot has improved my 25 yard enough that I'm starting to see where some brands of ammo are just not as consistent as others. Had some Blazer Brass 115, and it just wasn't cutting it. Been having pretty good luck with boring old WWB. I've got several boxes of the Winchester red box flap point, and it seems quite good, I need to take it out soon.

Acquired an HK45 the other day, and in an effort to get my .45 chops back, I’ve spent about 6 hours over three days, a ridiculous number of dryfires, and a half-case of full-house .45 ball to accomplish this tonight:

6 rounds, from low ready, 5.5 seconds, 25 yards. (The smaller hole at 9 o’clock in the 10-ring was with my RMR equipped carry VP9L immediately after, 2-second draw from AIWB.)

The nice thing about this is to rediscover just how relatively easy it is to shoot a 9 with an RMR… and the fact that the HK45 is fitted with irons only, perhaps means maybe my irons game isn’t quite dead yet.

(Fun stuff, despite the current cognoscenti telling me the round is irrelevant.)
