With the Oaks and Derby 144 upon us (lived in Louisville for six years), Woodford Reserve, Blanton's, or Four Roses are my choice for sipping. I like the sweeter Maker's Mark for making Old Fashioneds or Mint Juleps.
The one thing I miss about Louisville is going into Rite Aid (yes, the drug store chain) and buying good bourbons and Bourbon Cream at better prices that I can buy here in Alabama.
Damnit. I can not find a bottle of Van Winkle or Weller to save my life here in Chicago. If anyone in the area has a recommendation on who I might contact.
I’m thinking the wife and I may well take a bourbon tour at the end of the summer/early fall this year. In hopes I can score a few things from the source.
Good luck finding either.
A friend of mine, for lack of a better term, deals in whiskeys and bourbons and recently acquired a bottle of 23 year old Pappy that he sold at auction for $12,000.
On a trip to Colorado last fall he stopped in a liquor store in, I believe, Crested Butte, and found eight bottles of Weller 12 year gathering dust on a shelf. He bought all eight.
I'm in the Cincinnati area and neither are to be found around here.
I've had the pleasure of tasting Pappy 15 year and now wish I hadn't. Makes everything else second rate.

ETA: $129 for two gallons... do they have Gal Gadot fly it in Wonder Woman's invisible jet and spoon feed it to you?
