Ok, so I was able to try a measure of Bulleit Bourbon the other day:

I did not like it; it seemed somewhat rough and reminded me of the peaty Single Malts I don’t like.

Funny: I really love Islay single malts. The peatier the better. I didn't really like Bulleit Bourbon either. I found it sweet and kind of... Nondescript? "Girly", was how my girlfriend described it.

Maybe it just isn't a very good bourbon?

I’ve been sipping the Old Forester 1920 Prohibition bottle at 115 proof, and I have to say I like it. I used to be a WT101 guy, but I’ve slipped over to the Old Forester 100 blend now. For the money, I think it’s hard to beat for a daily drinking bourbon. Cheers, Mates!

I don't have Scotch or Bulleit experience so I can't compare to the peaty taste. I can say of the wheats my preference is Weller over Makers but I have both in the cabinet.

Buffalo Trace is a smooth rye mash that most in my circles enjoy.

I love the Buffalo Trace! I think it’s the best bourbon available, for the money. Smooth and flavorful, but I can’t find it in my area now.

Very similar. OF has a little more bite, which I really didn’t like at first, but I’ve come to really like it.

Quality Vermouth is the key.

My favorite Vermouth, because it is not too sweet is Carpano Antica. Follow the 2-1-2 recipe (Manhattan Area Code) it is a perfect drink every time. For a mix up instead of using Angostura Bitters if you can find some Cardamon Bitters it is a more herbal tone.

Not to derail the bourbon thread, but pertinent if you like Manhattans is a brandy Manhattan. If you have a will try try outside of the box this is one of the best cask brandy's ever....

2 parts Copper & Kings, 1 part Carpano Antica and 2 shakes of chocolate bitters. (yes chocolate) @ 120 ++ proof, a couple of those and you will be fine.
