I've tried to like Scotch... Some of the less peaty stuff can be ok, but, it's just not for me overall... I keep some around for friends who prefer it.

    106 proof.
Neat it is a bit hot, but has proven to be open nicely with a touch of ice.
$39 bucks, so not so bad price wise.

Well, that's a way to start the new year.

Keep the cognac and the red envelopes, this year's rabbit has got some antlers.

    Woodford Reserve Double Oaked

Just bought a bottle of Woodford Reserve Double Oaked and compared it to their Bourbon Whiskey. I prefer the Double Oaked, both are good but the Double Oaked character is smoother to me. A couple small ice cubes is all it needs. Thanks to those who mentioned it.

@Yung continues to be generous with samples. I am very appreciative.

Today's (well, this past Sunday) selection is Wild Turkey Distillers Reserve 12 year, a release not available in the US. I believe this bottle is from Japan.

If you like the Wild Turkey line (I'm a fan of Rare Breed and occasionally enjoy the basic 101), it's easy to recognize this one as a Turkey product. What I found interesting about it is that even holding true to the 101 proof (50.5ABV), there's truly a cask strength amount of flavor in here, without the extra alcohol.

I usually find Turkey a bit less sweet than, say, Weller SR, but this one is slightly sweeter than Rare Breed without being "sweet"... THIS guy and THIS guy do better reviews than I can muster. Wife and I were trying to place a flavor element that the first review picks up as Cream Soda. Not too much, just some of the vanilla and what I find is typical nuttiness from WT products.

Very layered in both taste and on the finish. I liked this one very much and would certainly buy it at list price (unfortunately unavailable)... Wife liked it even more than I did, definitely one of her favorite pours. Partly due to the reasonable ABV but mostly because it was that good, even at 101.

If you like Rare Breed, this is way better.

    Thanks again Yung!

I've come to the conclusion that I am not a connoisseur. of anything. If you're like me, you'll enjoy Early Times Bottled in Bond ($14.99/liter here), Evan Williams Bottled in Bond ($16.99), Wild Turkey 101 ($27.99), and Jim Beam Single Barrel 108 proof ($26.99 here, and a steal at that price IMO).
