Random bourbon story - I spent 10 weeks in a police leadership academy this past spring. One of my classmates worked for the Ohio Investigative Unit. OIU handles liquor investigations and apparently the state’s intel unit surfs social media for secondary market booze sails and does buy busts on the sellers. Recently they busted a guy (an attorney actually) for selling a $3k bottle of Pappy VanWinkle that’s not on the approved list for sale in OH. Said bottle is now sitting in a warehouse in Columbus. The seized booze can be distributed to Police Academies around the state for their OVI class “drinkers” to consume.

Needless to say, we spent some time trying to figure how we could arrange to be drinkers in that class.

NC ALE (Alcohol Law Enforcement) did the same thing here in December. Caught a guy selling Pappy on Craigslist. Although I don’t know what will happen with the bottle once the case is adjudicated.

Probably the same thing when we caught juveniles with beer, destroyed the evidence at choir practice.
