True, though there are a lot of stocks and chassis's that are drop in for the 700 action, so a custom clone has that advantage.

Here it is... I still have not made a decision on what I want to chamber it in. I was thinking of one of the 6mm BR rounds, but I don't know if I want to mess with the magazine issues. I may just go with 6.5 Creedmoor.
I am NOT a long range shooter, but I want to learn how do it.

A little not-so-long gun that beats the heck out of me with every pull of the trigger My Remington 660 carbine in .350 Mag.
6BR is a fantastic round, is inherently very accurate, and cheap to shoot. It's also very easy on barrels compared to 6.5C, etc. Going to another caliber, such as 6BRA, Dasher, etc, requires you to either fireform brass or buy something that is not as common, and may not always be on the shelf.
Like you mentioned, 6BR is short and doesn't always feed well from the standard AI magazines. Mine came with a modified mag that has a spacer in the back, but actually feeds really well from an unmodified Magpul AI pattern 308 mag.
6GT may be a good compromise in improved feeding, barrel life, and ease of obtaining brass- as you don't need to fireform. It's probably what I would get if making the choice today.

I like the 6mmBR Norma and have a chassis that has modified magazines that feed it fine, though in my benchrest 6BR it is a single shot. In 6.5, I really like th4e 6.5x47 Lapua over the Creedmore if you are going to reload, but if not, then Lapua is the only ammo you can buy off the shelf.
This is my Remington Custom Shop (Built at Dakota Arms) 6mmBR Norma. Not quite as good at 1,000 yards as my 6.5x47, but deadly at 300/500 and 600. 40X Receiver, Laminated Targetmaster Thumbhole Stock, Krieger 1:8 twist Heavy Varmint Contour barrel with Bigs-N-Andy trigger set at 1.5 ounce. Nightforce 8x32 BR scope.
