    Retro Action Pistol Shooting League

So Caleb started the ball rolling with:
I would totally play 90s Action Shooting. Everyone gets Browning Hi-Powers and puffy jackets.
    OrigamiAK responded with:
Me too. I was thinking 3rd gen Smiths, Beretta 92s, and Hydra Shoks, under some Cross Colours attire. I will warm up my language by watching Menace II Society.
    LSP972:
    Don't forget P226s…
    Caleb:
All guns will be carried cross draw in a leather holster or mexican-style appendix in your blue jeans with a flannel shirt for concealment.
    Your truly asked:
Hmm... So, I could rock the USP but would LEM be cool?
    LSP972:
Good question. The LEM was developed after HK's disastrous first attempt at jumping on the "DAO" bandwagon to sell hardware to the multitude of clueless US police administrators. Known as the V7, it was/is, without doubt, the most egregious trigger _I_ have ever tried on a handgun (if you have a LEM, pull the trigger on an empty chamber, and then pull it again without cycling the slide. Imagine doubling THAT, if you can, and you have HK's original V7). Needless to say, they didn't sell many of them. I have seen exactly two in my travels, etc.

Thing is, I'm not sure exactly when the LEM appeared. I want to say post-2000, but I just don't know for certain.

But, in any event, you'd be flirting with the spirit of the game. While the USP "officially" was launched in 1993 or so, they really didn't get out there in any numbers until quite a while after that. IIRC, it was 1995 before I even was able to put my hands on one.

For me, I'd have the same problem I had with the P226; small hands. If Sig hadn't come up with the short trigger when they did, I would have had to settle for a 5906. On the one hand, that boat anchor would have served me adequately. On the other hand… well, I'd rather not think about the other hand…

Why Retro Action Pistol Shooting? Because acronyms.

Also, because I perceive that there's interest in multiple divisions, I'll throw out some ideas:

    * 70's division aka "Kojak/Hawaii Five-0" -- nylon sportswear, trucker beards or pornstar 'staches; Colt Pythons and (other) big-ass revolvers in 45LC/44Mag

    * 80's division aka "Magnum PI/Miami Vice" -- mandatory hair gel (for those with hair); 1911s in 45ACP, S&W semi-autos, 38/357 revolvers

    * 90's division aka "Leon: The Professional" -- puffy jackets, watch caps, flannel, goatees; Hi-Power, P226, 92FS, G17, USP (non-LEM), etc

Given Caleb's trucker-style facial hair in his last 90-second review I bet he's one thrift-shop visit away from dominating the 70's division. Assuming Jerry doesn't dig a leisure suit out of the attic and show up in full "I remember the 70's like they were yesterday" style to sweep the field.

90's division. Just make sure you don't get any of the (mandatory) hair gel into the works.

ETA: Whoops, messed that one up. Should have said: "Just make sure you don't get your flannel shirt or facial hair caught in the slide."

There should be extra points if, say, you show up to shoot the 80's division with a Bren 10. Or the 90's with at least six Beretta 92's while wearing a black trenchcoat and sunglasses, Chow Yung Fat style.

Wasn't the CZ 75 a hot commodity back then but unobtanium due to the iron curtain?

    Think for yourself. Question authority.

    LOL.

I am going for the 90's division. Glock 17, puffy jacket, and a watch cap.

You know we should do this for one of the major matches. We can allow modern holsters and belt, but all the other clothes, gear, and guns have to fit into one of the RAPS divisions.

Oh, hell yes. As long as they're all in good holsters and you can draw and holster safely, why not?

Pretty much means there has to be a dump box at every shooting station, though.
