    Upside down pics??

I just became a site supporter, and tried to upload pics straight from my phone instead of photobucket, and they're all upside down. (Pets thread)
I just checked the thumbnails in my attachments and the pics are upside down there.
I'm going to try to rotate the pics on my iPhone and then upload them...

Some phones embed the orientation into the photo's EXIF information.
When you take the photo while holding the phone "upside down", that orientation gets written into the image.
When you display that photo on the web, sometimes the code used to display the photo will read the EXIF data and sometimes it will not.

Looking at your upside down pets photos, the EXIF data is not present... I'm guessing it was automatically stripped when you uploaded the photo.. so the web site has no way to sort out that the "orientation" should be flipped. You would need to edit the file, fix the orientation and re-save it, then upload it again to fix this. At least that's the way I would go about it... Maybe there's an easier way??

The vexing part is when you open that photo on your PC at home, the PC (or MAC) will read the EXIF data and display the photo "right side up". You're left wondering what's up?... The difference is that the EXIF data is present on the PC version of the photo but not here. To fix this, you need to copy the photo (put it in the correct orientation first, then hit "Ctrl-C", and the go to a NEW file and paste it "Ctrl-P". Then save it. This new file will have an upside-up orientation without the need for any EXIF corrections.

Side note: You also want to make sure that any photo you intend to publish on the internet, you have the GPS marking turned off. I'm guessing from what I see in your photo that this web site strips the EXIF data (not sure) from uploaded files. So the GPS data gets stripped (good thing) along with the orientation info (inconvenient thing). But if you have not turned off the GPS feature in your camera app, the EXIF data in the original photo will show your exact GPS location (very bad thing in most cases, certainly when you plan to put them on the internets)

Here's an EXIF example from one of my photos..

Holy crap dude, you're too smart to talk to me. I appreciate your help though, unfortunately I have a better chance of swimming the English Channel than deciphering what you told me!

I need to stick to photobucket, like the rest of the mouth breathers.

    Seriously, I appreciate the effort.

BTW, I attempted to "fix" the problem, and ended up kittening the bed even worse than before.

    LOL!!

    Condensed version...

    1. Open the file on a computer. I don't know a way to do it on a phone.
    2. Fix the orientation if necessary
    3. Copy the image "ctrl-C"
    4. Paste the image into a new file "ctrl-V" <-- Edited to Fix
    5. Save the file with a new name...
    6. Re-upload it.

And... Check your camera app settings on your phone and make sure you have the "Record GPS Data" (or whatever they call it) turned off.

    Wait, huh?
Was that some kind of sarcastic ambiguity? Or possibly ambiguous sarcasm?
