++1. I'm dealing with tinnitus in one ear after walking into what I thought was a cold range shed with my earmuffs around my neck

You also have some protection form the unexpected shot when your muffs are off.

When you consider that hearing aids run $3,000-8,000 and still don't 'fix' the problem, even the most expensive muffs seem cheap.
Yeah, I almost always wear my custom musician's ear plugs (only 9 dB) under my HLs. Takes that little bit of extra edge off the noise.

    1 pair HL Impacts
1 pair HL LaserLite plugs underneath.

    The plugs are 32dB NRR.

I prefer to play it safe.
This is a thread where I built a boat I designed and which I very occasionally update with accounts of using it, which is really fun as long as I'm not driving over logs and blowing up the outboard.

I had been using the HL Impacts since 07, best value per dollar IMHO. I switched to MSA Sordins at the beginning of 2013, just plain best IMHO, but spendy. I have 3 pairs of HLs for other shooters and backups now.

You buy a set of the Sordins and after awhile you start to wonder while you waited so long to do so.

I have the Peltor Tac 6s

    Pros:
    -low profile
    -compact when folded up
    -pretty decent noise reduction
    -relatively inexpensive
-option to replace ear cups with gel cups for better comfort

    Cons:
    -battery life seems poor
    -electronics seem delicate
-mic switches can be turned on inadvertently when folding them up.
-battery access sucks, you have to tear out the ear cups to change them

Break easily, die shortly after you have a hot sweaty day wearing them.

They're a crapshoot for sure. Mine are still working after 4 years miraculously.

I have the HL impacts as well, as others have said I find they're uncomfortable for long periods (8 hour class for instance), but they're inexpensive and do the job. Indoors I'll also use cheap foam plugs underneath. I found the input for mp3 player works well in the few times I've used it.
