Here's a not too horrible article written on the subject, from a IT geek perspective.

If you start thinking about things like steganography, out of band key exchange and other topics, you can understand why agencies might peruse realtime communications channels like these.

Oh, and they probably dig the elf shoes, like Tam said. But I am curious if Leroy Jenkins is really one of them?

So, logically, with this story, and the story about tracking peoples' browsing history on :ahem: certain websites, a part of the NSA has figured out how to get the government to pay them to browse pr0n and play World of Warcraft...

    Nice!!!

Heh. From my friend "staghounds" in comments on my blog:
The original purpose of the internet was to enhance the security of the United States Government.

    That's still priority one.

Just because it has porn and facebook doesn't mean it isn't still the Telescreen.
    Books. Bikes. Boomsticks.

I can explain it to you. I can’t understand it for you.

Yeah, but having to read the asininity of trade chat day in, day out can still elevate a person's cortisol levels quite a bit.

Hah! I must admit, this is the last place I thought I'd find other WoW players. Leeroy was pretty great, but for WoW - Biny is still my all time favorite. She's the one that blew up the whole Auction House back in the day.

For all time greatness across all games, it's hard to beat Fansy the Famous Bard. That's going back a ways though, but he was the undisputed King.
