It is robbery and suicide mitigation. I've never heard the reasons cited in the posted response from the range in question.

If you don't already have the ability (via firearm) to cause death or serious physical injury, we will not give you that ability. If a person with a working firearm wanted to commit suicide or rob us, they could do those things already.

It is an unfortunate rule when someone comes from out of town and legitimately wants to use the range but has no gun with them. Then it's a bummer.
I would hit up a range when I had time as an OTR truck driver to rent some guns. I ran into this once at a range outside of SanFran. They allowed me to buy an annual membership for $30 and waived the hourly range fee so dollar wise it was a wash for me and just took some time to fill out the forms.

It sucks but there have been enough cases of suicide by rental that I can understand why some ranges just won't rent to solo strangers.

I'd be surprised if Central Florida ranges haven't yet adopted such a rule, after all the suicides that have occurred over the last few years (and one murder/suicide).

Heh. We had a truck stop that backed up against our property at CCA, and one day a trucker on a layover of some sort came in and bought a case of American Eagle .45 and shot the whole thing up by renting pretty much every .45 in the case.

I can explain it to you. I can’t understand it for you.

Taking your registered pistol out side of nyc is grounds for getting your pistol licence revoked.
The nypd told me to rent one outside of the city should you want to shoot or carry.

Petitioner violated the terms of his premises residence license when he carried his firearm to and from the airport for his trip to Nevada.

I've been there for (and had to clean up after) a suicide, a suicide attempt and an accidental shooting at the range where I work. It sucked, big time. But, seeing women and young kids in tears after those events was the worst part for me. After going to a "two shooter" policy we've not had a single serious incident *knocks on wood*.

When customers get upset about the two shooter policy, I generally explain that it helps to cut down on accidents. If they persist, I tell them that it's a condition of our insurance. In the one or two times where people have really pushed the issue with me, I've told them, "I don't like cleaning up after suicides." That usually settles it.
