There's an unfired first gen available to me locally with the Tau bolt shroud and NC extension. Is it worth considering or should I be looking for a gen 2?

IMO it depends solely on whether you want choke tubes.

That with a CROM/H1 would be pretty sweet.

What chokes are recommended on a defensive shotgun? My competition shotgun wears an IC, but my 1301 came with a CL. I'm thinking IC is still the way to go here, even with flite-control, just due to being happy with it knocking down steel.

I am considering getting a 1301 and want glean the good information in this thread; but with 80 pages of 40 posts, I dread it.

Does anyone who might've been following this thread from the beginning have a cliff notes version?

Everybody loved them until @JodyH 'broke' them by figuring out a flaw in the design that created double feeds.
@Tom_Jones created a stop-gap measure to mitigate the risk of the double feed (I have 1 on my Comp, works great) and @SpyderMan2k4 made one from aluminum (have it on my Tactical, works great).
The Beretta blew out the Gen 1 for like $800(which was the original price a few years ago!) and how have a Gen 2 with solid performance and reliability improvements.

@SpyderMan2k4 has a bunch of accessories available for them on his website (I bought an RMR CROM last night).

Everyone still likes them, they might not be Benelli M4 tough, but they'll convert pretty much any Benelli M2 user to Beretta.

Whatever patterns best with your desired load at your desired distance.

For Flite-Control - much tighter than Mod seems to negatively effect pattern.

But like snowflakes, each shotgun is different and what one does an identical one may not. It's actually a bit tiresome, but then again I guess that's why we have Hans Vang and screw in chokes.
