    Life Under Socialism

Bernie Sanders, and a legion of college kids, wants the US to adopt socialism. Venezuela, a rapidly developing nation at the time, did just that in the late 1990's under Hugo Chavez. The rhetoric was the same: fairness, equality, stop the rich from controlling things. And Chavez followed the socialist playbook--taxes, nationalizations and lots and lots of free goodies for his supporters. Here is a report from the Daily Beast--hardly a conservative website--about the results almost 20 years later.

Keep in mind, this wasn't caused by a war or an unforecast economic depression. This was caused by dedicated communists/socialists implementing the same policies socialists preach everywhere:

I will never in a million years understand why people don't move instead of ruining the country they're in with incompatible (usually extremely foolish) laws, forcing everyone else to follow them whether they like it or not. If the UK was more American-value-aligned than the US I'd be finding a job and hopping on the plane this week.

I grew up in the Socialist Republic of Romania, so that article is like deja vu to me.

Socialism is the ultimate Ponzi scheme where those who run the Ponzi scheme get all the money and power, and the fools looking for their promised utopia get all the misery.

The saddest thing is that the human capacity for ignorance, greed, envy and corruption, is so deep, that even though the abject failures and atrocities of socialism are well documented, people still fall for its siren call.

    People suck.

People are also suckers. You'd think that otherwise smart people would be able to look at the great success of certain forms of government throughout history, have a basic grasp of economics, and look at human nature and instantly reject socialism. But no.

People are lazy for the most part. It's something I highlighted in a recent post in the Trump thread. People just don't have or don't want to take the time to be informed. Everyone thinks 'it's different this time', b/c I'm involved. How many times has that happened to anyone of us regarding relationships?

Lastly, Venezuela, like many 'paradises' that could support socialism at first have one thing in common....the resource curse. Venezuela had so many riches, of course everyone could/should equally benefit from it all.

Mwop! MWOP! Sorry, my head just asploded when I started thinking about that all over again.

It all reminds me of the free/inconceivable meme.

Fairness leads to extinction much faster than harsh parameters.

Aside from a certain segment of the youth who think socialism is the same as social media, it appears that most think it is more "fair" than capitalism. The Cato Institute has an interesting report and the embedded videos are interesting as well.

Probably more a statement on their lack of education (ignorance) regarding the nation's foundation, which is funny considering they're going to college.

Yeah best not remind me of the long Soviet-designed bread lines I stood in with my grandmother when I was very young. Unable to practice our religion, unable to speak out against government injustice and unable to move up in social class.

That is not the American way of life and even the hint of such a transition, even a slow one, should be resisted in any way possible.
