In college so many years ago I discovered a book written by Maxwell Maltz that had a profound effect on my life at the time, and continues to do so today. I was deeply involved in competitive...
Thanks for fixing that. Heck I even carry the 340PD around the house in sweatpants as it's the only handgun I have that won't sag even with an elastic waistband.

I have two 10mm that are literally a blast to shoot, but for self defense and concealed carry there are many better choices. I also have two .40s that would be my choice if bullets fly, but my 9mm's...
I'll often put my S&W 411 in my console as back-up to what I'm carrying concealed. I can take it out if I leave the truck unattended, something I can't do with my shotgun or Sig MCX.

I voted for S&W semi-auto because that's what I'd like to have in hand if shooting starts but I probably carry my 340PD more because it's super light weight and better concealability. Also in an...
The 640 Pro does not have the lock. The extra weight is very helpful in reducing recoil. It works fine without the moon clips. The standard tritium sights are very nice in dark conditions.

I couldn't agree more, also having a concealed carry permit allows you more freedom and latitude to have a loaded weapon with you in your vehicle. many states are quite restrictive on carrying...
I have both the 360PD AirLite and the 640 Pro. One to carry and one to shoot. 5 rounds of .357 in the AirLite seems to be a popular stopping point. My wrist hurt for three days after firing a...
I have just purchased a quantity of Corbon DPX in .40 S&W to run and carry in my .40 caliber Smiths. The solid copper hollow point round is 140 gr and produces a stated 1200 fps at the muzzle...
The hunt for Smith 3rd gen accessories is part of the joy of owning these classics. I have more holsters than guns. They are out there and available for the diligent searcher. EBay often has some and...
John,
Thank you so much. PM sent. You are paying it forward and the wheel of Karma will come around.

Thank you Hi-Point, you have schooled me. ~ Digiroc
Good rebuttal Tamara, but I wouldn't discount the experiences as related on the S&W forum. Many examples have been fired thousands of times in the past 25 years (although I'm happy mine seems to have...
After waiting with great anticipation my Shorty 40 finally arrived last night. The weapon exceeded my expectations and is absolutely flawless. LNIB as far as I can tell. Now that I've actually held...
Thanks Duelist, it's the finest handgun I own. Fit and finish is exemplary, must have been a safe queen all it's life. Shoots better than I will ever be able to shoot it, but I will shoot it. I've...
Thank you for your kind words Tamara. My apologies to all if my enthusiasm for my Shorty Forty knew no bounds. I just got home from picking it up and cosmetically it exceeds my expectations. It is in...
One can hold an opinion without ownership. I bought the .40 because I felt it was the best compact .40 ever produced for general sale. I still hold that opinion and thats what the topic of this...
No, the Shorty Forty is quite distinct, being a Performance Center offering. The 4040PD, also a Performance Center item, is much closer to the LS & NL 3913 & 3914s sharing the same angled dust cover....
I do have an opinion and I voted with my money on it. I've given my reasons for having that opinion and if others differ that is their right. In normal discourse my opinion may be challenged and I'd...
Quite a few still around. My first J3 flight was one we pulled out of a barn after 40+ years of neglect. A real stick and rudder, seat of the pants flying machine.

As this is an internet forum about pistols I'm just a random poster stating my opinion as to what I believe the best .40 handgun. Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one. Not everybody has a...
Critical Defense has adequate ballistics and lower recoil and I'm not planning any four legged encounters (although there ARE bears out there) also the Critical Duty seems to have negatives like...
Well my 185 was a stripped out platform with an inflight door for flying jumpers and a centerline 24" camera port for hauling a mapping camera around. The farthest North I ever got with it was...
There are over 9,000 members, that's a lot of experiences to check up on before I respond. I do try to read entire threads before I post in one, but checking everyone's posting history is a bit much...
I was forming no impressions of him, just giving him the benefit of doubt. I don't bother to research people who post anonymously on internet forums, to much like stalking, I just like to talk to...
