I think I've got a Colt GI replica thumb safety.
The problem with the pencil test is that the safety plunger can be partially unblocked and when the firing pin strikes it, it pushes it out of the way. If it strikes it even a little bit, the two...
Negatory good buddy. The nose of a .45 bullet strikes the frame's feed ramp lower than you think. Even lower if it's a big hollowpoint and especially the first round out of an 8-round magazine. ...
;)
Yes, due to the shorter cartridge length and lower recoil
The further you stray from a full size (5") 1911 in .45 ACP, the more difficult it is to make them run reliably.
This. All of the 1911 and 2011 pistols that STI builds in Texas use a ramped barrel.
That is the frame Bill mentioned earlier. Maybe he can post a photo of the welds on the left front rail that had been given the blacksmith treatment.
Not only is the heat affected zone very small but the composition of the filler material and the amount of build up are carefully controlled. It doesn't get much better than this for welding on a...
Are those tool marks on the surface of the radius cut or peening from use?

I'm no engineer but if those are tool marks,...
The rails along the mag well don't do much to support the slide so it's extra work for very little return. When using the old fashioned peening method of tightening the slide to frame fit the mag...
Mr Janitor - it's a build up of bearing surfaces for refitting the slide to frame. It is about the same hardness as the frame.
Mmmmmm. Those beads look so nice I almost hate to machine them! This will be my first frame with Bill's laser welding and I'm looking forward to getting it back.
I happen to know of a couple of 1911 frames that you could work on (wink wink, nudge nudge) :D
Checking the plunger tube regularly is good but many 1911s come with plunger tubes that are not properly staked IMO. I like to see the holes flared or chamfered on the inside of the frame, the studs...
:D Once they get a close and personal look at the front of the cylinder and see those ballistic missiles in the silos, they usually give up the fight!
What is the flex hose for? Inert gas? Fume extraction?
Having been in several shootings, (all at night) I wouldn't have a self defense pistol without night sights. One of my shootings was under streetlights. I had no problem identifying the suspect and...
I thought you wanted your M&P extractor welded and was going to suggest trying the Apex extractor instead.
That poses an interesting question: Bill, can you weld a MIM part?
Phased plasma rifle in the 40-watt range
Damn, that is a nice weld! If I'd tried to tig it the entire front half of the frame would be big glob of weld :D
He told me that he used a punch with a step on the end (like the rail swaging...
You can't have too much of a good thing!
Most likely it's Mil-Comm TW25B, Sig's grease of choice. I don't think it contains any lithium.

IIRC the early P226 had steel grip screw bushings and screws that were smaller in diameter than the current ones. Maybe one of the former Sig employees can answer why they discontinued this.
I think the aftermarket support will come, especially if the FNS gets adopted by a large agency or two. Don't forget that most companies in the industry are running at 110% just to keep up with the...
