How cheap were you looking for?
I lucked out with $18
Yes. I should have probably bought one of those barrels when you first posted the completed project.
I saw the $46 barrels on Numrich. One of those might work although I will have to see what Karl says about silver soldering on a front sight.
There is a 2" barrel on eBay but it is already priced at something like $175. Yikes!

Will the ejector shroud line up with the contours of the frame?
If I'm envisioning this all correctly the barrel would have a sight rib that sticks out on top and a shroud that sticks out underneath. It might work but also might look pretty funky.

Oh, yeah. That is still my plan. More or less.
The obvious easy way to go would be an original 2" barrel and matte refinish. Sand the grips of any big dents and stain.
Plan B is a 4" tapered barrel with a chop and a new sight soldered in place. Ideally something in a dovetail to correct windage if needed. And to correct elevation too for that matter.
Plan C ? I don't have one. Cheapest route is a 4" barrel for cheap. Screw it in and have the gun matte finished. Stain grips as above.
