Back in the 60s or 70s, one of the gun rags ran an article on necking the 50 BMG down to .22 for hunting the ever speedy and elusive Nauga for their hydes. Unfortunately, I don't recall what the developers christened their radical new cartridge.
Nauga hyde was in high demand in the upholstery business. Naugas were small creatures that moved at such incredible speeds, a new higher velocity round was required, faster than the 22-250 or 220 Swift or even P.O. Ackley's record setting 22 Eargersplitten Loudenboomer that reportedly drove a 22 caliber bullet over 5,000 fps from a 338 Weatherby case.
According to the article, on their first Nauga hunt, the bullet hit the small creature, expansion was so violent, only a small bit of Naugahyde was ever found. The project was soon cancelled as new methods of Nauga ranching became more economical
The endangered Nauga was saved by the Corinthians. It was biblical.
