Oyea.
We also used a lot of magnolia seed pods.
My kids call them "monkey brains."
Last fall I heard my 6 year old son tell my 9 year old daughter over the walkie talkie, "Come quick, I found an entire tree of monkey brains" with the same level of enthusiasm I would have had had I discovered a Beretta tree on the farm.
Ten seconds later I see my daughter running across a field with a 5 gallon bucket to collect their bounty
About 5 minutes later I get the call of, "Daddy, the monkey brain tree has large thorns."
They collected 78 monkey brains that day and piled them up in the middle of their pioneer camp. The picture looks like something out of a mix of the Depression, Lord of the Flies, and the Heart of Darkness.
