Week 292: 10/25
Week 292: 10/25
Results may be posted until November 26th, 2018.
Designed By: Gabe White
Range: 25 yards
Target: B8 repair center, download here: https://pistol-forum.com/attachment....1&d=1322428748
Start Position: Holstered (or Ready if necessary, see below)
Rounds Fired: 10
This is a concise drill to work on drawing and engaging a small target at a reasonably long distance, under a modest amount of time pressure.
Set up a B8 target at 25 yards and par time to 4 seconds. The handgun starts loaded and holstered. If your range does not allow you to work from the holster, then present the gun from a ready position and use a 3 second par time.
At the start signal, draw (or present from ready) and fire one shot to the B8. Repeat until you have done a total of ten repetitions.
Target is scored as follows: Overtime shots count as misses. Hits outside the 9-ring earn zero points each. Hits to the 9-ring earn one point each. Hits to the 10-ring earn two points each. Hits to the X-ring earn three points each. If the grease ring touches the scoring line, the shot is in. There are 30 possible points for the ten shots.
The challenge of the drill is to get a consistent grip while not wasting any time on the draw, then to exert enough discipline to fire the most accurate shot you can, while under modest time pressure.
Please report the following when you post your results in this thread:
Pistol and holster used (or ready position alternative)
How many 9s
How many 10s
How many Xs
Total score out of 30 possible
Anything you noticed
Note: After creating this drill, a friend made me aware of the No Fail SHOT! drill from Chuck Pressburg at Pressburg Consulting. The two drills definitely are similar, though not intentionally so. You can (and should) check out Chuck’s drill here: https://youtu.be/6L8TNhE3Lac

Gen5 G17 concealed under a polo shirt in a Keeper
9-ring: 2
10-ring: 2
X-ring: 4
Total score: 18
Half the shots I jerked to one degree or another, and half were really good for me. I don’t think I’ve ever shot that many Xs in a ten shot group of any kind, especially off the draw each time.

Week 292: 10/25
Results have been pretty grim. Typically get the sights stabilized and shot off in 3 seconds from AIWB, T shirt concealment.

Gen5 G17, concealed in a Keeper under a polo shirt
How many 9s: 6
How many 10s: 1
How many Xs: 2
Total score out of 30 possible: 14
Anything you noticed: Shot this cold. Another 14, but better in that there were less bad shots.

Pistol and holster used: Gen5 G17 concealed under a polo shirt in a Keeper
How many 9s: 3
How many 10s: 1
How many Xs: 2
Total score out of 30 possible: 11
Anything you noticed: Worked with firing at a 'natural' moment, rather than trying to take more of the available time. Most shots broken between 1.3 and 1.5, with a couple up to 1.7. I think I need to keep working with this.

Gen5 G19 open carried in a Safariland ALS. I screwed up and fired 11 shots so my score would be out of 33 points.
9-ring: 4
10-ring: 1
X-ring: 0
Total score: 6
My second shot was over time. I don’t know if it was a hit or a miss because I did not score each shot individually. It’s cool that the four 9s ended up in a little clover leaf. It’s not cool that I pushed almost all of my shots left. I’ll be trying this again. I really enjoyed it.
