Comments: I had originally set out to use this pistol as a test bed for slide mounted MRDS, as I didn't want to dump a ton of money into having one of my other Glocks milled with a Type 2 RMR. I pulled an old piggybacked RMR06 from my Larue and threw it on a Brownells G17 slide with window, an Agency barrel, and lubed with Slip2000.
The first range day was going great until the left side of my RMR’s dot turned into a starburst. I have a slight astigmatism that results in my Aimpoint dots having a small flare around the 10 o’clock so i figured my eyes were getting fatigued, exacerbating the problem after firing 410 rounds. I packed everything up and headed home. Once I got home my girlfriend, of all people, commented “wtf is wrong with the dot?” Four weeks later I had my RMR back with a nice, crisp dot that has remained crisp for the remainder of the testing.
Now, my initial plan was to fire a few hundred rounds from this set-up to determine if I wanted to pursue pistol mounted MRDS further, then put the RMR06 back onto my Larue and get a more permanent pistol solution figured out. My OBR now wears an offset T-2, and the G17 is a constant range beater with a small drop of Shoe Goo under the RMR’s battery. I am pleased with the Brownells slide enough that I have a Brownells G19 slide with a type 2 RMR being vetted for carry. Ejection from the G17 has been fairly consistent with no brass-to-face, however the top right corner of the RMR has “helped” with that to a small degree. I never experienced any of the holster fit issues from the earlier Brownells slides in my Safariland 6354do.
Overall, I am very pleased with the pistol in its current setup and will continue to shoot it without cleaning, only adding Slip2000 until it becomes problematic. I’ve also used it to harvest a couple feral hogs.
