How do you carry when backpacking?

So I'm trying to get started with doing a bit of longer hiking/backpacking trips this summer, but I've noticed that the straps and belt of my backpack land pretty much directly on anywhere I would normally be carrying my gun. The strap goes right over the handle, even, when I carry IWB. It's both uncomfortable and interferes with a good draw.

What solutions have you guys found?
