Every time I think about loading up 1k of 9mm on the LCT, I would wind up saving about $6 an hour sitting there pulling the handle on the press, so I just order more 9mm. The 5-gallon buckets of brass are getting a little ridiculous though.

Agreed. I loaded up about 1K earlier in the week, just hanging out with my dad. I forgot about the Dillon auto case feeder. Had a box of Berry's plated 147 I got loaded up. I realized there are sunk cost sitting around, powder, primers and brass. Just a little time sitting there catching up, vs spending new money. But now I actually would need to buy bullets at $100 per 1k, vs about $189 for AE9FP. When ammo is less expensive (as it is now) it's easier to buy than reload.
I figure reloading is for ammo that costs >$0.30/rd. Like the .357Mag, etc.
Or if you're loading for a gun with a wide performance variation...like the .357 mag. You can get everything from rhino rollers to .38 wadcutters.
But cost is a thing. I started handloading for the .41 mag because it was dang near 1.50 per trigger press
