And some more modern gypsy style stuff, courtesy of Dorado Schmitt (the composer) and guitarist Angelo Debarre, in the beer tent at Samoreau Gypsy Jazz festival in 2011.
(The tune dates to the mid 70s, so it is older than many of the members here).

Nice, Lex (and everyone!)...I've always liked both the MJQ and gypsy music. It must be in the DNA.

They opened for Robert Cray here a few years ago at a nice outdoor venue that tends to attract some people that I think like to go but really couldn't care less about the show. A bunch of Chatty Cathys who blabbered on about jack and kept getting up from their seats making the guy with the cast that they seated at the end get up repeatedly. Another one of the those The More People I Meet The Better I Like My Dog experiences.
I have also been a fan of Reverend Green:

And the nice cover of The Temptations:

A masterful expression of the blues in 8 bars, by Chester Burnett, AKA The Howlin' Wolf. he's in his mid 50s, 6'4, about 300 lbs. Kind of primal.
The bass player here is Willie Dixon, the pianist Otis Spann, and the guitarist Hubert Sumlin.

Some of my all time favorites there, Lex. A lotta talent in those gentlemen.

79 years ago last Thursday, this dropped on the music world like a bomb.

Two illiterate Belgian gypsies, a couple of slumming Frenchmen, and a classically-trained, flamboyantly gay Italian violin player made the world take notice with one recording.
The lead guitarist had only two usable fingers on his fretting hand, and there was only one microphone used in the recording process.
These guys could still fill any hall on the planet were they still with us.
