San Francisco "banned" hollow point ammunition by specifically prohibiting 3 brands of ammo:

Hornaqdy TAP
Winchester "Black Talon"
Federal "Tactical"

TAP sucks, Black Talon hasen't been offered since the late 90's, and the Federal "Tactical" could apply to any JHP with a Federal head stamp. My "best practice" is to avoid anything with a Federal or Winchester head stamp, and carry Speer Gold Dot. Better safe than sorry.
