I was told essentially this by the Rolex sales guy at Mayors; that the price on my watch was so and so ‘if they were available.’ Apparently they are hard to come by, which puzzled me.

The go to Rolex place in KC since Fall has had exactly 0 stainless Submariners, 0 stainless GMTs and scant few Explorers or even stainless Daytonas.
The other Rolex store in town was rumored to have been allotted two of the the New Stainless Pepsi's GMT IIs for 2018. It took a meeting of the owners with the sales staff to determine which long time seven figure customers were going to get the opportunity to buy the watch at retail-9250 +tax

My watch geek buddy was willing to put down a 10% deposit when the model was first announced fully understanding that it could be years before he could buy one. They declined to accept his deposit because as a 2 Rolex, 1 Panerari 1 Grand Seiko watch owner, he was never going to be in play. They were not going to price gouge, they simply were only going to sell that watch to customers who had, over their lifetime, spent so much more at the store.
USED/PREOWNED Pepsi GMT II Stainless at essentially +2x retail.

Then other Rolex store in town that caters to locals, not tourists has a much larger selection. Explorers, Milgauss, and sport models
Waikiki is its own planet. And it caters to the wealthy Asian market.
Don’t get me wrong. A sub or a GMT will last a day or two in the local store. But still their selections are well balanced
