Week 338: Skills Check: Concealed-Carry Pistol Drill

Range: 3-10 yards
Target: Two IDPA (or any silhouette target with an 8" circle in the body) PLUS 3x5 added to the head
Start Position: Varies
Rounds Fired: 20

This is a concealed carry skills check designed by Gunsite Instructor Ed Head - see article here: https://www.shootingillustrated.com/...-pistol-drill/

String 1: 3 yards, draw from concealment, 2 shots COM on ONE target only, 2 seconds, strong hand only

String 2: Repeat String 1

String 3: 3 yards, draw from concealment, 2 shots COM, 1 shot CNS on ONE target only, 3 seconds, freestyle

String 4: Repeat String 3

String 5: 5 yards, draw from concealment, 2 shots COM on BOTH targets, 4 seconds, freestyle

String 6: 10 yards, low ready, 2 shots COM on ONE target only, 4 seconds, freestyle

String 7: 10 yards, low ready, 2 shots COM on BOTH targets, 5 seconds, freestyle

Since scoring isn't specified in the original article, let's use pass/fail - if you made all the hits in the 8" circle and/or 3x5, and were under the par time, you pass the string. If you pass all the strings, you pass the drill.

I'm a dummy and didn't bring a second target with me but this is representative of how i would do. I had plenty of time left top make the transition, whether I'd have done it without over/ under swinging is unknown.


442 from a safariland 25 pocket holster.
8" paper plate and 3x5

Cold, first rounds of the day

Pass

String 1 - 1.63
String 2 - 1.34
String 3 - 2.30
String 4 - 1.90
String 5 - 2.56
String 6 - 2.76
String 7 - 3.95

Had one close hit on the edge of the 8" at 10. The white is 8" and it was touching clearly but a bit astray of the group. I'll run it with my carry gun next. Next time I'll hopefully remember to throw a second target and stand in the truck.

Same drill with carry gun and only 1 target because i forgot to being an extra.

Somewhat similar times to my 442 but worse hits. The miss @10 i just slammed through the takeup instead of prepping and pulled the sights off target anticipating. Bad hits on the 3x5 as well. The first three draws were bad. Going to workon that now.

I see you forgot the 2nd target as well :D

Ha! Yeah I ended up shootin' it up, doing other drills. Forgot to snap a pic of it first. Was out there vetting some new mags for her.

Better late than never, it’s said; shot this after the close date, but will post anyway...
Gen5 GLOCK 19MOS w/ACRO mounted, out of a Safariland GLS holster under a fleece vest(Thank God fall is here).
Shot on Viking Tactics “skeleton” target, so no 8”circle&3x5, but all hits in boxes(IPSC?)

My obvious takeaway is I have more time on the Aimpoint, and index noticeably better.
