In one of his videos, Jerry Miculek said he had a competition revolver in .38 Super, so there's got to be a reason for it. I'd bet that you'd have to be up on Jerry's level to notice that reason though.
I used to shoot a 38 super SIG P220. One day at a match, one of the revolver guys comes up to me and asks if I am still shooting a 38 super and if I have any extra ammo. IIRC, he had to do a couple reshoots and thought he might run short. That was the gun he was shooting and pretty well as I recall. 38 super is a nice round but it expensive compared to 9mm, good moon clips are also not cheap, and the MFers that shoot it steal each other's brass. :)
