Thank you for bringing awareness to the issue with Federal law / possession of a firearm within 1,000 feet of a school. I feel this particular element is underestimated / completely unknown to many people.
The federal gun-free school zones act was previously found to be unconstitutional by the US Supreme Court as being outside of Congress' power under the Commerce Clause. A small part of that reasoning was the lack of findings in the bill showing a connection to interstate commerce. The law was then re-enacted with findings.
While I would not ever advise anyone to be a test case and would encourage being aware of this law, I do not believe it would survive a constitutional challenge.
Several years ago my state went to permit-less carry, after maintaining a permit for 46 years, it seemed a no brainer to continue.
If my state ever goes to permitless carry, I will maintain a permit not only for the gun free school zones issue, but also for reciprocity with other states.
Permits are a non starter...a money generator especially here in NJ where the gov. now wants to raise resident LTC permit fees to 400C, double all other firearm permit fees in the new budget and take away our Constitutional Rights....as long as there are state permits this can happen.....Constitutional Carry ....thank you.
So ours is only 2 yr. here in NJ and the Rat Bastage want's to make it 400 bucks plus double all other permits related to firearms not including re-testing fees and costs for the courses required...........trying to discourage and deny the one's who can't afford to pay for exercising their Constitutional Right ....tyranny at it's best....so there you are for state permitting......OMO.

Thanks to Tom Givens again for the whole newsletter!
I like the drills and occasionally take a shot at them, pun intended...
Vermont doesn't have permits. Permitless carry is the only option.
Just a note, some states want you to be a resident of the state issuing the permit for it to be valid for usage. Thus, PA has reciprocity with TX but my TX out of state permit won't work as I'm not a resident of TX. Oh, wait - didn't some senator once say reciprocity was going to happen along with the sun shining tomorrow.
Love the newsletter, BTW - Tom. Look forward to each addition.
.....and we in NJ have NO reciprocity period.
Florida licenses are relatively easy to obtain and FL was very aggressive early in obtaining reciprocity agreements. I still maintain a FL license because it still gets me a few states that a PA license will not, for example, Delaware. A nonresident FL license is honored by a large number of states, so it is worth considering if your home state will not issue a license.
Best of three runs today.
The other two runs made me undeniably aware of my need to practice more at 25y. :(

The sub-context of this thread is why I went to the effort of obtaining an Idaho enhanced permit, as a WA resident.
I had my first live fire since Nov 20th today and i used this as my Cold Test. 291. I'm pretty happy with that being that i've only just started picking back up a dry practice routine. I was working with a newer shooter and it started to snow so i didn't do a whole lot of meaninful practice after, but i'm glad i got the chance to run this at least.
