Spyderco Enuff 2

Intriguing option that is new for this year https://www.knifecenter.com/item/SPF...polymer-sheath. Looks like it might be a good option for a larger blade where the handle is scaled appropriately for one hand. My biggest complaint with most knives with blades over 3.5" is that the handle tends to scale with the blade, when it doesn't need to.

Sheath looks like trash for serious carry though. Probably fine for field carry, but otherwise too bulk for IWB.

Wish it was reverse edge, but for those who favor forward grip and/or the various Sayoc-style or Amtac/Tracker Dan style blades this is could be a nice option. Price wise it hits the button as well.

You know… I’m bored enough that after the kids are in bed I’m going to order one of these blades, that RK sheath, and play around it with all in terms of clip additions/setup.

Maybe I’ll even email DSG and see if Tom has time to whip something in up the future, but I know he’s busy.

The profile is what caught my eye. I was flipping through KnifeCenter since they're doing their Spyderco sale. Scrolled past and thought, "When did Spyderco start making a sgian duhb?" And scrolled back. The more I looked at it, more I saw to like.

Also, since it's in the "Enuff" frame, the various aftermarket Enuff scales should fit. So for us, "Can't leave it alone" geeks custom scales are an option.

Alright, so blade, sheath, and a variety of DCC clips to start with are inbound.

Received the knife. First impressions are that it’s pretty legit. Great ergos, handling, and no one does serrations like Spyderco.

The OEM sheath is utter dogshit. Could be pressed into service, with some minor non-destructive changes, for use in a carrier kangaroo pouch or similar. Beyond that, it’s best for folks who open carry XDs and drive lifted diesels.

The RK sheath hasn’t shipped but will get some photos up in the next few days; including some last-resort, marooned on Mars, ideas for the factory sheath.

I believe sheath is made by Sal's (Spyderco's owner) daughter's company

I played with one. It is secure and functional (and strap can be removed) but it did rattle a bit.

Will likely own K390 PE version at some point

Just ordered the plain edge. It caught my eye when checking out the knivesshipfree link. The only Spyderco I have is a Native 5, compared the measurements and it seems like a slightly bigger Native 5. I used the N-5 to clean a moose last year, definitely want a fixed blade, and I’ve wanted a Spyderco fixed blade for awhile.

If you ordered an Enuff2 it has a 4 inch blade

I need it has a 3 inch blade with a big ass choil

The original Enuf had a 3 inch blade I believe

Thank you, but let’s not accuse me of research. I’m just a bored guy who likes the blade, but wants to bring the carry system into the 21st century with readily available parts; and an experience base of a few thousand Lego sets under my belt.

It seems likely that I’ll be passing the knife and equipment to a much more knowledgeable PF’er so that some real innovation may occur.

No one does serrations like Spyderco, that is for sure. I love their serrations and hate most others.

Not a personal knock on the Glessers, but Spyderco really needs to step up its sheath game. The only sheaths for their fixed blades that are decent are their leather ones. Bulky pancake sheaths with 80 rivets in them are not good designs overall. They are clearly designed to meet a 'is functional' and price point. Not designed for the end user in mind. This is a consistent problem with Spyderco. I guess the fortunate aspect of it is it gives sheath makers a potential source of income.

This could probably be said of the vast majority of fixed blade knife makers. They could really increase the value of their products by putting some more serious thought into the carry systems.

How akin would that be to gun manufacturers including a holster with every pistol purchase? How often would it be the right holster for each end user?

I would think you could solve a lot of that by considering the use the tool was designed around.

If it's a field tool, a field sheath/holster would be fine.

If it's a defensive tool, then an IWB sheath/holster would be fine.

I actually don't think it would be that hard to standardize a holster for many manufacturers. Kydex/Bolatron - there is an industry standard hole spacing. Taco pouch it, three holes below the grip with an offset clip, one with a tension adjustment, two on standard spacing for standard clips. Plastic/kydex clips would work fine, those of us in the know would opt for DCCs. Clip can be swapped left-to-right. Would it be perfect? Probably not, but most IWB straight-drop holsters can be easily configured to work L-R and AIWB or IWB. If someone wanted a cant, swap the straight clip for the an adjustable cant one. Slap some velcro and a junk pillow on it.

Similarly, a sheath can be the same. Taco pouch it TIGHT to the knife. There should be only a small amount of material below the blade. The difference versus a holster is you fold the taco so the holes end up along the spine of the blade (traditional blade, edge if reverse blade). This allows it to easily be carried AIWB, or IWB. If you want to go with on the belt, a Tek-Lok will bolt right in, because industry-standard hole spacing.

That's another issue with the G-Clip is it doesn't always match up with the hole spacing. It's very close, but because it is not perfectly square, it cannot mount into every configuration possible like a Tek-Lok, if they don't add eleventy-billion holes to their pancake sheaths.

To some extent this is true, but Shivworks manages to supply well-designed sheathe with their knives. Bud Nealy used to supply a really nice multi-carry sheath system.

That's not quite the same thing. When I buy a gun, I can just buy a holster for it from JMCK or whoever. Sure , shipping, taxes and customs fees are annoying and add to the cost, but it's still a one way process resulting in a $100 accessory for a $500 pistol. And I can go shoot with my pistol while I wait for the holster. But there are so many knives out there that most of the time, sheath manufacturers do not have a mold for that particular knife. Which means I would have to send my knife to the sheath maker, who will be somewhere abroad, probably overseas in the US. I don't have access to my knife while the sheath is being made, and now we're talking about a $150 accessory to a $50 knife. (All numbers in this post are of course off the top of my head approximations.) And should I really, really like a certain knife, perhaps something on the expensive side (so I can't just buy a second one for the express purpose of sending that one to sheath makers)? I can't tell off the top of my head exactly how many 1911 holsters I own. Buying multiple sheaths would be much more aggravating than buying multiple holsters.

While the sheath that comes with a knife might not be absolutely perfect, for me at least it is important that the knife comes with a sheath that is usable for me. I've decided not to buy a whole bunch of knives because of the sorry ass sheath that comes with it.

Yeah, but..... Shivworks blades are essentially niche products with a very specific use case, and produced by folks who understand that use, and that the blade and sheath are both important and part of the system. I'm pretty confident that there are a whole lot of Spyderco consumers who have never heard of Shivworks, and wouldn't understand the products if they did.

I appreciate all the responses. You guys are absolutely right that the knife world in general could do better, and offer a lot more utility with just a little extra effort....such as industry standard hole-spacing, get rid of superfluous material, etc. I just don't expect them to satisfy my particular niche or use case when offering a product to the general public.

The fixed blade knives I have carried the most have either a sheath that is configurable for more than one carry method, or I have multiple sheaths for them in addition to the factory sheath.

For my Clinch Pick, I have Dark Star horizontal and vertical belt sheaths as well as the factory sheath. The factory sheath is attached to a Pocket Shield for pocket carry.

My Mickey Yurco Push Dagger has belt, IWB, and pocket sheaths made by Mickey.

In each case, the standard sheath did not account for everything, but it is useful for some percentage of my use.

Standard hole spacing would certainly help.

The RK sheath did arrive this week; it's much more serviceable but still not "optimal".

Also, in all my piles of shit and gear, I have no mounting hardware for the DCC clips so I will be resolving that shortly.

I’m very interested in getting this same knife and sheath combo.

How’s it working it out?

With the RK sheath/DCC clips, can it be carried edge forward AIWB at the 11 o’clock (for support/left handed, edge forward, reverse grip)?

Not to misdirect, but why serrations? I have one CRKT knife that I threw into a drawer never to be used. I don't see the usefulness of serrations. I find them difficult to sharpen. I like to be able to shave the hairs on my arm to test for a sharp edge.

I want the plain edge one for the record, but some may want to have a hard wearing ripper that'll laser through roap, seat belts, and leather jackets. :)
