A Porsche 911 GT3 isn't cheap, either, relegating it to the hands of the few. What's your point?
Anyhow, gotta go clean my Springfield Professional. You know how those finicky match-grade 1911s are...

I did pretty good on walk-back drills in that class. I may be a mediocre shot, but a pistol that will shoot under an inch at 25 yards with a "glass rod" trigger that breaks under four pounds will make you look okay when all the really good shots around you are shooting striker-fired plastic duty guns.
Still and all, though, I'm toting an M&P9F these days, partly due to mag capacity issues and partly due to the fact that a "glass rod" trigger that breaks under four pounds is hard for me to manage while shooting on the move or on a press-out. If you could guarantee me that the bad guys would come at me one by one and would stand still while I was shooting at them, I'd probably still be packing a 1911...

Another Wilson, a CQB-E 10mm/40S&W combo gun. I got this so I could shoot inexpensive ammo that would reliably work the 1911 platform (the 9 is a little light for a full size 5" gun).

Next to a Brown SF.
Tamara - NHCs have a lighter than I'd like trigger reset. I like a 5lb trigger pull on my carry 1911s and a good stiff thumb safety.
Ed Brown Special Forces I sent back to have bobtailed.

Sadly, I've recently sold the first two. The plane Jane CQB is currently the only 1911 I have.
Tam ... I grew a couple of miles away from Coal Creek Armory. Of course, it wasn't in existance then. I shot there over Christmas while we were back home visiting.
Here are my custom-spec'ed Nighthawk Talon II and SIGARMS GSR XO (which has been gone through and set up by the SIG Custom Shop). We also have a 1911A1 1945 Remington Rand.
Great guns, and I enjoy and admire a 1911, but I'll normally carry, compete and train with a Glock.
Best, Jon

Delta Elite with a bit of work. Novak night sights, STI trigger, Brown Hardcore lockwork, some other stuff... And the ever-classy skateboard tape on the frontstrap!

1968 Lightweight Commander .45 ACP. Currently at Mars Armament getting a little love. More pics... eventually.
Pogo, that's an awesome commander.
Attachment 444
Colt Series 80 Enhanced in .38 Super with much the same mods as the Delta Elite above. Except for the sights... Much as I hate the "surface-mount" Novaks, I hate grinding on and rebluing a pretty Colt slide even more. (I did, however, have the front sight hole hogged out to take a .125" tenon.) Yeah, it was a "Barbecue Gun". :o

5" Springfield Lightweight. Ed Brown sear & disconnect, STI polycarbonate & titanium trigger, nylon MSH from a Kimber, titanium mainspring cap... For a 5" 1911, this thing was freaky light. Ran good, but recoil was beastie for a full-size gun with full-house defensive loads. Carried nicely, though.
Good answer. I have some 1911s that have been road hard and put away wet including a Concept 8 (stainless 4.25") Les Baer that made it through an AFHF without an issue.

Built using quality parts and a little maintenance they will run. Not sure if they would make 50K plus rounds the way Todd runs his guns but he is a rare species. :D
Speaking of rare species:
http://home.comcast.net/~train2live/1911/todd1911b.jpg
And my winter project, a Colt 9mm Commander upper and parts on a botched frame from an unknown source:

http://home.comcast.net/~train2live/...Colt2small.jpg
When I get done it will have a new frame, longer solid trigger, 10-8 NM sights, beavertail, and the nickel plating will be long gone.
Tam, beautiful guns and photos.
Also, I had the same benchmade auto for almost 2 years. Good knife.
Since everyone is posting pictures of their 1911s:

... what I saved by not wanting one.
[don't have the picture upload thing right yet. Maybe oversized]
Not that I was thinking about mailing you one, but this pair of Colts (one .45, one a 9mm) run just fine for me. I wouldn't dismiss the New Agent / Defender platform out of hand. Or out of two hands.

Here it be.
Love it guys. Despite ToddG's inevitable protestations :p, everyone should have a 1911.
This was probably the smoothest and best shooting gun that (was) in my collection, a Rock River 1911:
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-1...s720/RRA-1.JPG
And tied for 2nd place, a Les Baer Premier II and a Thunder Ranch Special.
I had them built without the front serrations, I like a clean slide.

This is a full-house gun done by David Sams. Pics were done for the original owner by Jim Keeney.
I am not the first owner, so it comes with FCS. Other than that, it is divine, as it is both accurate (1.47" ten-shot group at fifty yards from the Ransom Rest) and reliable. It is a PPC gun, but I would not hesitate to carry it once I replaced the snake wood grips with the G10 grips that also accompanied it. It is chambered in 9x19. With the tungsten FLGR, muzzle rise is as close to nil as can be imagined.
I need to run it through the 2,000-round challenge.

A Bill Laughridge/C&S with Dawson rail, Dave Berryhill MEU-SOC, one of Larry Vickers last builds, and a SA LW1911 tuned by Chuck Rogers that I carried many years off-duty.
Very Nice pics everyone, 'specially the commander in .38 Super !
