That's a beauty, Tam. Lots of small differences between that and mine. The Longslides are uncommonly fun to shoot.

I'd never even heard of timed grip screws before JV said something about it when I posted an early preview pic in the Staff area.
Yeah, it's awesome needing to remember which screw goes in which end of which panel. To Jason's credit, he has a numbering system that does make it easy to remember in the event you drop all the screws on the ground.
And I admit, it does look nice.
Just had a 3hr talk with Jason. We didn't cover everything so we're talking again Wednesday evening. By then I hope to understand what the little metal pieces in the gun do so I can tell folks why his are really nice and stuff.
Dude, I say go for it... but do it with the understanding that 1911s are a study field in and of themselves. I don't know a fraction what Jason does and still managed to talk Caleb's ear off on the topic from Moynock to Carmel. :D
(I mean you know this already, I'm sure, but I can imagine your comments section is about to blow up from folks who don't know anything about the amount of hand labor that goes into a bespoke 1911 catching wind of the price tag. )
Over 100 hours of bench work for this gun. Doesn't include testing, developing a new sight, experimenting with 9mm magazine options to find the best available, more than a dozen hours of talking on the phone and trading emails (not just with me but also withSLGthe person who made all the arrangements while I was in a hospital sucking my thumb through anxiety attacks), range time verifying zero & reliability...

The grip screws aren't timed, but it looks neat.

Sam Andrews came through again. Last night the postman delivered this holster for my Hoag 5" Colt. It's fitted for a square triggerguard and with a sweatshield to protect my soft underbelly from the Bomars and the checkered hammer.

That is the business.

thanks! Yeah, its an Ed Brown Match dropin barrel. Took a while to fit. Had to modify the VIS and frame bridge a bit to get it to time properly, but it shoots like a house on fire now. Here's a 10 round group from a rest at 25 yards.
I also replaced all the MIM parts with an assortment of Harrison, Wilson and EGW parts. About the only things that are factory on her are the Thumb and Grip safeties, the pins and the mag catch. I hate shiny guns, so I used the caswell stainless blackener on the slide and frame, which gave it the kinda grey finish. Not sure if I will keep it like that or get it cerakoted.
Looks good like it is. I will have to get some Caswell on the way for my stainless DW.
Happy 160th Birthday JMB!

New acquisition? Or just enjoying an old favorite?
Just scored this. It just hit the FFL today. Jim Hoag built Series 70 Gold Cup. If you might recall, the Gold Cups came with the elliason adjustable sights and front sight serrations. Jim had to weld up the slide to complete the Bomar install, and weld up the frontstrap in order to checker it.

I saw this 1911 in the IS Propaganda and I thought it was a nice looking gun.
It is also interesting because I have hear AK's referred to as "the enemies gun",
and this is an instance of one of our "all american guns" being used by the enemy.
My plain Jane series 80 Gold Cup.

Quite possibly the nicest 1911 I own. And I like to think I have some great ones....
Wilson Combat Tactical Special (the precursor to the Tactical Elite). Finished on 9/11/92. I can't imagine that a better pistol could be built at the time. The early 90's was the sweet spot for Wilson's custom shop, in my opinion. This was before they started to use other manufacturers' frames, and before their own frames were introduced.
Builders are listed as Vic Tibbets, Ron Phillips, Chris Peters, and Jim Wilson; an all-star cast of pistolsmiths for sure.
I have a good buddy to thank for letting me purchase this from him. The gesture will be forever appreciated

That is a very nice pistol. I like the essentially retro look. How does it shoot?
I hope to get to the range this weekend, but it's not likely
Haven't got to shoot that Wilson yet, but this just came back from the spa at Innovative Custom Guns.

TheJanitor is to 1911s what Nyeti is to wheelguns...you guys need to do a blog together.
Some amateurs are very gifted amateurs, and I think what people are (correctly) suggesting is that you are one of them.
So this arrived today. A "Custom Tactical Gov't Model" probably sold around 1999-2001. There were three levels, but I never saw two that were the same. A conversation with a friend today confirmed the same, as his LevelIII had a different spec as well. Makes me think that Colt was building them to whatever spec suited them that day.
From the colt catalog in 1999:
- 01991LIII Custom tactical level III: Features long solid Videcki aluminum trigger with over travel adjustment, match grade hammer, slim tactical ambi safety lock, full length guide rod, recessed Bo-Mar adjustable rear and Heinie dovetailed front sight system, custom fit upswept wide grip safety with palm swell, funnel mag well, flat checkered mainspring housing and Double Diamond Rosewood stocks with Custom Shop Medallion. Targeted to no more than 2" @ 25yds.

I had a Kimber from the "Custom Shop" back in 97. That was a great gun, and this would have fared well against it, with the Kimber edging out the Colt for better overall feel. But, this pistol's beavertail is fit VERY well, as is the thumb safety. The Kimber's beavertail fitment was crude by comparison. I think it'll make a great base model for a custom build, as much of the work is already done. All it needs is checkering, a new MSH, and a trigger job.
If anyone knows of an elegant solution for replacing the rear sight with a unit that doesn't hang so far off the back, I'd appreciate a link. ;) Oh, and I don't consider the Harrison or 10-8 to be elegant  I like the Jardine, but I think I would have to have the rear section machined back.
