Please read the rules (http://pistol-forum.com/showthread.php?1837-Drill-of-the-Week) before participating in this thread.

Week 81: Double Moz
results may be posted until 11:59pm EST on Monday 7-October-2013.

Range: 5yd & 10yd
Target: two torso targets (8" circle, 8.5x11 paper, USPSA A-zone) and two head targets (3x5, USPSA credit card, or similar)
Start position: holstered (if allowed)
Rounds fired: 60

Place one set of targets (body & head) at 5yd and another at 10yd. There should be at least six feet width in between the two target positions as well.

On the buzzer, draw and fire two rounds to the body and one to the head of the close target, then two to the body and one to the head on the far target. Repeat for a total of five runs (30 rounds). Record your times and hits.
On the buzzer, draw and fire two rounds to the body and one to the head of the far target, then two to the body and one to the head of the near target. Repeat for a total of five runs (30 rounds). Record your times and hits.

There are no reloads required during the drill except as needed to keep your pistol topped off. Try to start each run with at least six rounds in your gun so you do not artificially slow your time with a reload.

Please report the following when you post your results in this thread:

gun & holster used
targets used
starting position (concealed, duty holster, open holster, or ready)
total time and hits (bodies and heads) for the first five runs (near to far)
total time and hits (bodies and heads) for the second five runs (far to near)

Training with firearms is an inherently dangerous activity. Be sure to follow all safety protocols when using firearms or practicing these drills. These drills are provided for information purposes only. Use at your own risk.

Gen4 G17, Milt Sparks Summer Special, concealed under a vest
IPSC targets, 3x5 in place of head. See notes below.
Near to far:
7.25 clean (this is going to be easy!)
7.07, -1H -1B far
6.06, -1H -2B far
7.45 clean
7.22, -1H far

Far to near:
8.91, -1H near -1H far
8.53, -1B far
7.07, -1B far
7.64, -1B near
8.06, -1H far

Regarding targets: I didn't have access to a target stand, so I ran this drill with the far target on a backer 8.66 yards to my right. I should have remembered from my IPSC days that it's really hard to hit a flat target at an angle. I will be looking into portable target stands. The narrow IPSC A zone was not my friend.

Math nerds in the class may now figure out how long my grease marks were.

I like the RTF -- seems like it helps me hang onto the 17 better.

RTF2 G17 from Talon Tactical A10 OWB, concealed by unbuttoned denim shirt
3x5 cards and 8" paper plates

Near to far: total time 20.99; 17 torso hits; 7 head hits

Far to near: total time 21.61; 20 torso hits; 9 head hits

Seemed very clear that on the near to far, after shooting very fast at the 5 yd targets it was hard to let off the gas on the 10 yd targets and the hit counts reflect. Reminded of the general advice from USPSA shooters is all else being equal if you have the choice, shoot far to near if you can.

Great drill.

gun & holster used: SACS/Warren 9mm 1911 in 5 Shot Leather SME
targets used: Q-PT (8" body, 3x5 head)
starting position: concealed under polo shirt

total time and hits (bodies and heads) for the first five runs (near to far)
time: 17.17
head: 6 / 10
bodies: 19 /20

total time and hits (bodies and heads) for the second five runs (far to near):
time: 18.08
head: 6/10
bodies: 19/20

This was one of the first drills I ran after a month's hiatus. The head shots were just killing me even when I slowed down to be more deliberate with them. I also had two severe fumbled draws on the far-to-near run that added about a second to my overall.

gun & holster used: HK P30 v3 Heinie Straight Eight Qwiks
targets used: 8" body on the near to far strings / 3x5. Switched to 5.5" black bull of the B8 on the far to near strings / 3x5.
starting position: concealed in a Smart Carry
total time and hits near to far: 23.78 -1H
total time and hits far to near: 25.68 -2H I put up new body targets and used the black bull of a B8. I new I needed to dial up the speed after the first run and thought I would give myself a harder target.

My missed 3x5 shots were all on the far target and trended to the top left corner. I was pushing the gun to fast and over ran the target. The hits on the near 3x5 were centered in a 2" group.
This is what happens when I forget the 5 Shot SME and run the Smart Carry.
