Yeah, express double rifles are all we talk about at the sewing circle.

Frickin' shotgunners...

Really? Cool! A fellow could almost overlook the cooties if that's true.

Yes. The only question is, .470 NE or .500 NE?

I love the straight stock and double triggers.

It looks like it could use a couple barrels as well. ;)

Stunning. And that sure has a fine piece of plank.

English stocks are more prettier. We do prefer the aesthetic of the upland game gun.

It sure is pretty. But I dunno if it can be an effective bird gun without tubes, back boring and all that other barrel pimping stuff needed to regulate a shot cloud.

Nice gun. :)

So, for the classic 'Gun & Pipe' picture, do you have a tin of Grousemoor?

Is a bird rifle what is used to hunt ostriches and other large fowl?

I shall ponder that question whilst dusting woodcock over a spaniel.

I dunno about that, but in some places folks have "turkey rifles" used just for such hunting.

People in Texas were all the time talking about shooting turkeys with rifles. It made this Georgia gal feel, nervous, like she was in a room full of poachers and the cops might bust in at any time. (Except most of the Texans were cops.)

Also, on that same trip, hilarious story from Alan Wayne Damron on his time as a guide on a hunting preserve and his quasi-tame turkey flock. I shall try to do it justice sometime.

22 Hornet, 218 Bee (I prefer the improved version of both), and 22CCM are wonderful turkey rifle calibers. Can't do it in OH, but that's the way to hunt turkey. No ruined meat, no picking out shot. No ruined feathers. Call 'em in to 50ish yards, and vaporize the head. Mmmmm, dinner.

People in Texas

Texan here, can confirm. I grew up hunting turkey's with single-shot 22, head shots only. Great way to learn both shooting and turkey hunting. I missed a few, but I learned with every miss what to do better.

I know a guy who prefers a .30carbine with toned down handloads, or a 32-20 lever gun with lead flat points. The 32-20 being an older iron sighted Winchester I thought that rather a cool turkey gun.

My grandpappy thought the 32-20 was the best deer rifle made.

Cheap ammo (then), little recoil, and not much spoiled meat. Sweet little rifle, that Winchester.

Just remembered the guy who used one of these in 32-20; http://www.remington.com/en/products/archived/centerfire/pump-action/model-25.aspx

Pump action, take down, side gate loading..... I wanted a rifle like that badly, perhaps a modern version in .357mag that still feeds .38 specials......

This is what I wanted from the IMI Timberwolf. Really wish something like that was still produced. I think it would make a great car/trunk gun.

You can use a balcony gun for woodcock? Doesn't hardly seem sporting to use that heavy armament for those little teeny birds.

And no "improved" Hornets for this guy. The original case, full of Lil' Gun and Hornady 35gr Vmax's, makes a wonderful combo. No improvement necessary. :)
