Hmmmmm ..... I think one could reasonably conclude that awareness trumps a reactive response. The Jaguar and Caiman are both perfectly capable of defending themselves, but lacking the element of awareness, the Caiman's hard bite and sharp teeth was effectively nullified. Nature is full of important lessons.
