2 weeks ago one of the range/shop staff where I work part-time suggested we start a friendly competition.
The stakes: $1/shooter
The course: 15yds, 1 round, closest to the bull wins the pot

The first week's pot was $5 and last week's pot was $6 (hey, it'll pay for a lunch!)

Here's a quick pic of this week's target with the 6 shooters. Bragging rights and money aside, I feel that it's a very good indicator of how accurate a person "actually" is. Now, I understand why we shoot groups: to measure and build consistency. However, shooting in the real world, that first round matters a lot! There are no "fliers" in the real world. Every bullet hits something and you either hit or miss your target. If you're hunting game with a handgun, usually 1 shot is all you get. In a defensive or offensive scenario, there are often by-standers and other things that it would be good not to shoot, so being able to put your first shot where you want it is important.

I figured I'd share this here to inspire some friendly competition among you guys as you go shoot with your buddies at the range. Make that first shot count.

(p.s. I did manage to win the pot both weeks, but we'll see how that goes next week. Gotta stay up on my game)!

Looks like your competitors need work.

Maybe the prize should work in reverse, with the worst shooter getting free hotel and transport to the closest pistol class.

Nice shooting!

Years ago I would compete in something similar at a small local range. We would all throw a couple bucks in the hat and 1st place would get 50%, 2nd 20% and 3rd would usually end up getting their couple bucks back.

They would mix it up between pure bullseye, timed combat style, and some rimfire. Combat style was the first time I had ever been timed while shooting and I learned a ton from it.
