Serpa? Check. Bad music? Check. Shemagh? Check. Huge frickin' watch? Check.

I knew this was gonna be chock full of awesome by 0:05, long before I saw any somersaults or the scan-'n'-assess-'n'-reholster while holding an empty gun @0:27ish, at which point I went back to reading Warcrack patch notes. I take it it continued in much the same vein from there?

I believe he's actually the former guitarist of Cinderella, after seeing him do the slung rifle helicopter toss thing, reliving the glory days of the Somebody Save Me video circa 1985.

I was thinking his shooting pace and accuracy (even when moving) were pretty good, but then the pessimist in me said unless he is shooting full size torso steel at 7 yds.

Lo and behold.

JodyH
09-11-2013, 01:29 PM
What's with the hiccup in his draw right as he clears the holster?
I liked watching him muzzle everything uprange every time he Woo-rolled.

But hey... he has a cool beard and tatts so he must be HSLD.
The there's the whole Spartan 360... that's just too awe inspiring for mere words.

I saw that too, but I thought that was b/c he was so high speed that his face was up against some major G's :p

Skip to 1:30 for the direct reference if you don't have time to enjoy their 'training'.

The hiccup on the draw is common to see when using a Serpa, even from very, very good shooters.

JodyH
09-11-2013, 03:40 PM
I don't associate with Serpa people doing speed draws. I like standard issue holes and nothing extra.

Chuck Haggard
09-11-2013, 04:05 PM
I can't find the video but I recall seeing Todd Jarrett stuttering his draw when using a Serpa, although his stutter is really fast.

I can't find the video but I recall seeing Todd Jarrett stuttering his draw when using a Serpa, although his stutter is really fast.

When me & Caleb took that class from Todd J., he talked about half the people there into running the Serpa. I was, like, "Et tu, Todd?" This was '08. I'm practically a Serpa-hatin' hipster. :D (To be fair, the CQC holster from the same shindig is still my go-to range holster for casual 1911 gaming. When I can get it back from my roommate.)

Chuck Haggard
09-11-2013, 04:35 PM
I tried the Serpa when they were new and there were few options for a holster that covered what I needed it to do. Turned out to be a huge fail for a number of reasons.

With the ALS system on the market there is zero reason to carry a Serpa.

I watched the whole painful video. 5 minutes of my life I'll never get back.

Some of his pistol skills were decent. I won't even get into the rolls. When he got to the rifle, my first thought was that this was a cheap knock off of a MP Dynamics video with cheap, crappy Command Arms accessories on the rifle. I would have liked to see him do those rolls with hard armor in his PC. Looked like soft panels only.

Can't bring myself to watch the other videos.

When you watch Pat Macnamara on video you can kind of see what they're going for...but the execution just isn't there. It's sort of like trying to remake Lawrence of Arabia starring Larry the Cable Guy and Steven Segal.

It just don't get it done.

If I'm ever in a gunfight, I hope its with somebody who likes to do those forward rolls. For one, they can't really shoot at me while they're actually rolling, two, it's a hell of a lot slower that just taking a few steps, and three, I appreciate the whole part where they expose their back to me. Maybe some rounds will hit the spinal cord without needing to fight through all those pesky ribs and guts first. Then the only rollin' they do will be steering their wheelchair with their chin.

Can we archive this video as legal justification for shooting someone in the back?

(Prosecutor) Sir, how do you explain the alleged attacker's wounds?

Some good and some bad. AR skills need a ton of work. That may look good on film but taking that long to get a cheek weld on the ground (I truly hope he was trying to simulate shooting under a car) with your arse up in the air will cost you a high price outside the wire. Suppress and move to a higher hit probability FP with better visual of contact/mobility.

It bothers me that after action scans are done so differently compared to people who have been in the suck vs people who haven't. Not saying that you've had to experience it to do it right. It just seems like an after thought. Doing a scan in a known controlled range environment vs the suck is a totally different thing. You look/listen at anything and everything that seems out of place. Doing it wrong looks like your doing the Stevie Wonder with your gear on.

It's the Indian, not the Arrow.

You can only get that fast with Snake Eyes sights.

I would be interested in this guy's bio. Former military? oversees? I find him a little pompous [standard european pompous] but he obviously knows how to handle a gun. I find his videos entertaining and impressive as far as speed goes. I don't think he can be characterized as HSLD because that beard is going create a lot of drag.

I know a guy who practices that stuff all day and can do that really well, but sucks at anything else shooting related.

Also, if you have enough time and enough rounds, you could hold the gun upside down and shoot reasonably well, if you practiced it over and over. Being able to hit a target quickly does not have anything at all to do with teaching students.

He does a lot of very Hollywood-looking moves, very quickly, while looking the part, and being sorta enigmatic by not explaining much. And perhaps most important, he has managed to get passed around outside the normal training junky circles, which only adds to the awe from people who don't know different.

His earlier videos were a bit sillier, with the rolling and whatnot. The speed shooting is not as bad. All in all, he seems like a very skilled shooter, and I've got no reason to bag on that aspect... but the rest comes across as almost a self parody. He should hook up with the Dynamic Pie guys.

A former Instructor of the 5th Assault Battalion, Italian Military – Folgore Parachute Brigade, Instructor Zero has loads of experience when it comes to Tactical Shooting. Here is what we can share about Instructor Zero’s bio:

SOFREP has been wrong before. Several times. (Just pointing that out.) Fakes still turn up in the U.S. working for law enforcement agencies with BS backgrounds posted online for all to see. Some got away with it for a while, some probably are getting away with it as we speak. If it's hard to bust posers in the U.S., imagine how hard it is to vet someone from overseas.

-----

He's got an difficult-to-verify background, a selective video editor, questionable drills (combat rolls, anyone) and no indication that he's an effective teacher (maybe he is, maybe he isn't.) TAKE MY MONEY!

Seriously, I guess Costa might lose some market share to this guy, but I don't know what to say to anyone that chooses to train with Zero instead of any of the dozen travelling instructors or a good local instructor with verified backgrounds and solid reputations as effective teachers.

If you are a training junkie with plenty of funds that's bored with taking classes from the usual suspects, take a flyer on Zero and see if he can impart any wisdom. Otherwise, I wouldn't consider him for training.

---------------
I just read the Loadoutroom.com link posted above.

For all the folks slobbering over his speed shooting (I'm talking to you loadoutroom) -- Since you have Youtube, I'm going to assume you've heard of USPSA. Every weekend people of all stripes (the overweight, the cubicle dwellers, white collar types, etc) get together to compete in a series of tests that measure how fast and accurate you can shoot. Zero hasn't demonstrated anything that you wouldn't see at such a match. He can turn in fast splits on some hoser targetrs, but they aren't mind boggling, nor do we have much of an idea of how many points he's shooting when he's hosing.

--------

EDIT -- I see that loadoutroom.com is a offshoot of SOFREP. Figures. More clickbait from Webb.

According to the Spartan 360 website, it appears there is only one training site, and I found somewhere that it's in Italy. I know he sells the DVDs internationally. While he shows off these skills on his Youtube channel, the training seems more down to earth, from the clips I've seen.

I lost all respect when he pointed HIS OWN gun at HIS OWN face, just to sell some pistol sights. IMO, big boys know the rules, and while they're blurred at times by those who practice gun play on a way range for a living, it certainly doesn't mean that once you have enough YouTube subscribers you're professional enough to be above them.

People with his agenda, meaning individuals asking for money in exchange for instruction, need to set the example, and that's my biggest issue with Zero.

Truth be told, he's entertaining, but I'm easily entertained, so don't take any suggestions from me on movie night. I subscribed to his channel, and I'm waiting with bated breath for the time he pulls a Tex Grebner, and the LOKNLOD chart buster that follows.

Drop it in a sock

Metal in my bones like an x-man, son
Finest leather holster, it's an S-M-E
It's up front cuz I carry it A-I-W-bee
I'm T to the O to the Double D G
Todd Green get it right there is no E
Custom steel that'll make you feel for a single stack of pills
So don't try to run up on my ear talking bout a custom Glock
Woodburner stipple job looking like a turd drop
My 'smith works magic like an Asgardian
Keep trying for that coin but you will fail again

[Chorus]

[Verse - Zero]
I'm Italian, but ya'll knew that
Da Instructor Zero, I kinda sound like Borat
I keep frog shirt hanging on my front side
But only skeleton, yeah that's the SEAL kind
Ain't no other way to play the game with my skill

Bottom line: Zero seems like a cool guy. He just gets a little carried away with his advertisement videos. But apparently that is the kind of thing his clientele is drawn to and you have to give him props for his shooting skills.

He's a twat YouTube personality pandering to boobs. Lots of views =/= intelligent.

It's like how FPS Russia is entertaining to some folks. Stupid sells, especially on the internet.
