First time I've taken leave in more than a year and it coincides with a Star Trek Convention in Nashville. Got to meet and hang out a bit with Dominic Keating, Garrett Wang, Walter Koenig, Suzie Plakston, Nana Visitor, Tim Russ, Chase Masterson, Armin Shimerman, and Terry Ferrell. In addition, I managed to piece together a quick costume so I could dress as a Starfleet Lieutenant Commander in the Command division (TNG-era red uniform). Impromptu pics below; I had professional photos taken with most of the stars, but haven't scanned them to my hard drive yet.

Who cares?

This isn't High School.

Slightly related, although I am not a member, I had a soldier who invited me to his full on SCA Wedding. Without a doubt, the most fun wedding I have ever attended!

My hats off to anyone who is this passionate about things. It certainly is no worse than painting yourself green and wearing a foam cheese hat in 20 degree weather.

This. All the best parties of my life occurred with a bunch of modern-day 'druids' I met in college. I may not subscribe to their belief system, but they sure knew how to throw a motherkittening party. I'm talking naked-in-the-backyard-jumping-over-bonfires-drinking-single-malt-and-waving-at-the-Mesa-PD-helicopter parties. And that was just for their engagement!

I must admit that I admire Shatner's ability/willingness to make fun of himself.

If you could fight any celebrity, who would you fight?

Shatner, I'd fight William Shatner.

You can get your nerd on, here.

I mean, heck, I just posted the following on Facebook:

A corpse is a corpse, of course, of course
And no one can talk to a corpse, of course
But I can talk to a corpse, of course
'Cause I've got Speak With The Dead!

In TOS, certainly. But in TNG, it was just another uniform color.

And to the OP, bravo! Although I thought the red shirt thing was bad too.

Not that there's anything wrong with that......

But personally, I was going to pick Charlize Theron or Halle Berry. I'd lose, of course, since I'm a gentleman.

That fight would go right to the ground, though. No stand-up boxing there.

I could see doing some stand-up clinching going on...

TOS? TNG?

Sorry, you lost me there. I'm not a real "Trekkie", but that de-motivational poster making the rounds- "Kirk, Spock, McCoy, and Ensign Ricky are beaming down to the planet. Guess who's not coming back???"- is hilarious.

TOS = The original Series

In the Original Series, red shirts designated security personnel (which is why so many of them died), yellow/green was command staff and engineering, and blue was the sciences (medics and science officers).

In The Next Generation, the red uniform designated command staff, yellow was security/engineering, and blue remained the uniform of science-oriented occupations. However, since all the impromptu pics of me share the theme of me being outnumbered/outmatched, I rolled with the mini theme "a day in the life of a modern red shirt". We might not be as expendable as we once were, but we still take most of the beatings (unless we're the Captain or XO). Also of note, I seemed to be the only younger guy who wore an insignia other than a Captain or higher (Lieutenant Commander in my case) which apparently was enough of note that Denise Crosby, Tim Russ, Garrett Wang, and Terry Ferrell commented on it.
