I only had time to watch a bit of it, but it is good. I'm hopefully will have time to finish it tomorrow. Scary that troop commanders at company and batallion level don't seem to grasp the self defense concept.

During the LA Riots, a south central small business operator (dope dealer) found it was so much fun driving his car on the sidewalk toward a National Guard check point and watching the soldiers scatter that he came around for another pass. The second time a young Joe locked and loaded his M16 and put a round thru the windshileld, hitting the driver and creating an opening for another street dealer. I thought it was justified. We came on our tour that night and cruised over to that CP. The NCOIC had ordered his troops to fix bayonets and keep their one magazine a piece in the weapons instead of their pockets. While talking to the troops, a captain wearing the insignia of the AG (personnel and admin) drove up in a HUMV and had s word with the sergeant. The bayonets disappeared and the magazines went back into pockets. My partner and I, both reserve Infantry officers were not impressed. Never did hear how the soldierwho had to use deadly force that day faired.

Can't speak for other branches, but Big Army does not grasp, nor is it interested in, anything to do with personal violence. Some members are, but institutionally, it's at the bottom of the heap.

I have a good friend who used to be a copper but has been a JAG for the past few years. His stories of dealing with ignorance from commanders makes baby Jesus weep. A stunning lack of knowledge across the board.

I'll throw in comments about how many guys think it ultra bad ass-er-er to use an M9 with laser grips as a pointer during briefings.
