Is there any utility with a glock 26 in a non carry state?? Or should I just get a backup g17

Appreciate all input

Backup g17. If you ever get to carry, carry the g17 :)

Stuff happens. A lot of folks carry more than one gun, and a G26 / G17 combo may prove very comforting. The manual of arms is the same. The G26 will accept G17 mags, so the reload issue is minimized. The smaller gun can be carried in a large(ish) pocket, while a second G17 can't. The small gun is more easily concealed in an IWB holster at 10:00 / 11:00 o'clock in case you're behind a seatbelt when the gun is needed.

I carry a G26, and I can't think of much reason for owning one if you are never going to carry it. If I wanted a dedicated car gun, I might get a G26 over a G17 because the G26 fits in the small console between the front seats. That's about all I can come up with. (EDIT: On the other hand, a G34 would fit in my glove compartment.)

If you can't make up your mind, split the difference and get a G19. When was the last time you heard some one say "I sure wish I'd never bought that G19."?

I actually like a G26 with the factory +2 mag extensions better than a 19.
The 26 will give you more options than another 17 if you do wander into a ccw state.
I like having options before redundancy.

If you're a serious sport/target shooter only, then I'm not sure a G26 makes sense.

If firearms may be protection tools for you... then G26 size option makes a lot of sense. Especially with the ability to use your G17 mags if that G17 goes teats up. And even if the G26 isn't as fast on follow-up shots.

Especially when this option includes a high degree of redundancy. I would add a 26.

Get G17 for now.

If you can get a CCW ? Then get the grip cut down to G19 size

I would suggest handling both a G17 and G19, and go with whichever you index and shoot the best with. In addition to its increased slide and receiver dimensions, the lower backstrap area of the G17 is more bulbous; the G19 is much less pronounced in the same area-see which works best for you.

I've never seen much real utility to the G26, especially if you, as many do, put a grip-enhancing magazine baseplate extension on the magazines-which in effect gives the receiver the same dimensional profile as the G19. It's not that the G26 is "bad" per se, it's that the G19 is a better handling and more effective choice (better grip, longer sight plane) in my opinion for most situations.

The G17 is an excellent choice as well, and is not difficult at all to carry concealed, especially in an IWB holster-profile-wise, it's about the same size as a 1911 Commander (albeit significantly thicker girth-wise). I like its longer sight plane and balance, but the G19 handles very quickly too, and acccuracy with either seems quite good.

Since concealment isn't an issue with you on this one, go with whichever works best for you-road test 'em both if you can. I have both, and use both-with a slight preference, and more liklihood of carying one of my G19s.

Best, Jon

If (and back when) I lived in a non-CCW state, I would be looking for a pistol that is more concealable than a G26.

Just sayin'.

I'd get a second 17. If the urge for a third pistol hits, then I might start thinking about a 26. (Or a 23.)

Good looking out Sarge,

I"m hesitant to go gen 4. I like the parts commonality with my main gen 3. But quite tempting
