Just curious whether or not anybody has one and if so, what is their thoughts/opinions?

I'm interested in this as well. Seems like a reasonable way to get a P2000sk with a really nice DA/SA trigger. Doesn't seem like there's a ton going on in the hammer-fired subcompact market.

Hard to imagine anyone who likes a P series Sig not thinking these to be attractive. They also take the 229 .40 and -1 9 mm magazines for more capacity. I read an analysis of the 224 in .40 by Bruce Gray, on the Sig Forum, stating they were under sprung. Apparently folks have been having reliability problems with the ones in .40.

I believe the DAK 9's have just started shipping, but not yet the DA/SA in 9.

Hopefully they run in 9mm.

There is one in my safe. It is bulky and unpleasant to shoot. Feels horrible in my hand, but I'm admittedly not a sig fan. I'd rather carry a 229.

Mine is a 40.

What I was afraid of.

I've held one and liked it. I'll probably buy a 9mm da/sa to run as a big at some point.

I held one today while picking up department ammo, I didn't see anything a P229 doesn't offer. Bruce Gray's onservation was enough to scare me away.

Ssshhhh. Don't let your sk find out about that comment. It's the truth though. I do like even the stock Sig trigger better, but I prefer my P30 over the 229 I used to carry, and I would probably like the sk better than a subcompact Sig...I'm very much used to my HKs at this point.

The sk replaced my P239 for "smaller gun" carry duty and in doing so I picked up capacity and mag sharing.

Yeah, it would be a tough sell to replace the SK, especially since I am pretty sold on the LEM trigger. And superior mag release and weight characteristics. But out of all the new guns being released, the P224 was one of the few that got my attention. That probably says more about the crap being released than the P224 itself.

The P224 sounded good at first.
Then I started thinking about the recoil of my P229? Its pretty snappy already and with a shorter grip the P224 would be more pronounced .
No I'll go P239 if I wanted the same type platform with a little weight and length taken off.

I've also heard some problems with the P224.

Plus I just don't know what to think about this so called improved long extractor and the Dash One Slide.

Sounds more like a its easier to manufacture than being a actual Up Grade.

I never thought any of my P229s (all in 40) ever were snappy. They were accutly pretty tame for me. I did keep my P229sas thought that is too pretty to get rid of and my wife loves carrying that gun when she can get rid of her issued gun. Do not tell her that there is issues of women shooting 40 or going from a Glock to a Sig. She defies that logic.

Well La de da!

Really compared to my 9mm, my P22940cal is snappy.

My 9mm is about the same size S&W 6906 3.5 barrel 12rd mag

I do draw the line when shooting 1500fps 125gr SJHP in a M&P13. Not for me.
and would go 38spl or +P any day

I was just saying, I never thought in the P229 40 was snappy like in other handguns. Maybe it is just me too. I am carrying a P2000sk in 40 right now because I have a lot of Rangers laying around.

I don't know much about the HK line.

I was thinking the SK had a short barrel maybe under 3.5?

As I`m getting towards 50 Im thinking of going back down to 9mm.

I have moved back to 9mm but I bought a lot of 40SW Winchester Rangers for cheap (less than 9mm FMJ before this craze) so my best rounds right now are the 180 grain Rangers in 40sw. I do have 9mm HST 147 grain for the P30 but my wife's duty ammo is Winchester Rangers and in 40sw.

I go back and forth depending on what I am doing. If I am going to be at a class with a lot of FED LE then I take 40SW (free ammo sometimes) guns and military and civi it is 9mm. Last few classes I have taken I have used a M11 (we have 3 that never get used and I have no idea we had three on the TOE) due to free 9mm that the Army is paying me in.

I have a small stash of 2005 Ranger 180 T and the 9mm 127+P+.

The 127+P+ isn't that much faster than GD 124+P maybe 50 to 80fps

Pretty interesting exchange on the P224 in the comments section:

Thanks for the link...guy was defensive on a whole 'nother level. I have little doubt the 224 will be a finicky little thing compared to its older, big brothers. It's too hard for companies to get sub-compacts to run for all loads for a decent length of time. Much more dependent on recoil springs and magazine springs being just right with the short cycle and lighter slides - as well as being clean and well lubed.

A 229 with a half inch off the grip would be right.

I wonder if SIG is aware that one of their instructors is behaving like that online?

Discussion about P224 pistols in this thread: good.

Discussion about discussions on another forum/blog in this thread: not good.

Please keep the discussion on-topic. Thank you.

Major take away for those following the P224 intro. I always viewed the P224 as one model pistol. Apparently the author, a Sig Academy employee, sees the P224 in 9 and 40 as completely different pistols:

Just as the P224-9 is a completely different gun than the P224-40 that Bruce Gray shot and evaluated

I had never noted that distinction on Sig's website, in their promotional materials, or heard reference to a P224-9 versus a 224-40, but I have now been educated.
