For those who have been down range, what side arms would you generally encounter either with insurgents or uniformed enemy troops?

Which regions/countries are you referring to?

Lots of S&W Sigma 9's floating around in Afghanistan, and some PSC's issue (no kitten) Taurus 24/7's to their guys as sidearms.

As far as Iraq goes, IP's got issued Glock 19's, some of which inevitably ended up in the hands of JAM and other affiliated groups.

Balkans?

Yugo variants of the Tokarev and various other Soviet Bloc and Western pistols used by the former warring factions.

Pretty much anything issued to the Iraqi police had some % end up in the bad guys hands. Only thing I saw that was unusual was a Bulgarian BHP clone that our trainers actually liked. Essentially it was DA and had a steel frame and ran fine on FMJ.

There's a guy I don't like who carries a Glock.

Does that help?

That's not a very nice thing for you to say about me.

Commonly encountered Tariq pistols in IZ - 9mm Beretta 1951 local copy. Issues with single action safety were common. Same design also seen under Helwan copies elsewhere in the region.

To the west of there, have seen quite a few MAB pistols in holsters and otherwise.

Also ran into Browning High Powers, 1911 clones, and even older Beretta designs. More rarely Stechkins. Quite frequently CZ and local clones, very commonly Turkish models when marked. Sometimes Skorpions but ammo is not very common.

At the more modern end, saw Walther P99 and Glock models from various sources.

Pretty broad question, so not as specific answers. If you clarify why you are interested might be able to answer more effectively. Its a big AOR, have kicked about it more than a bit.
