WitH ammo becoming more available I'm increasing my range visits. At this point I'm shooting 100 rounds every 2 weeks. I notice that after about 50 rounds my accuracy and fundamentals really start to drop off. Should I stat shortening up my sessions or press on through? Thanks

Depends what drills you're shooting. Shooter fatigue after 50 rounds of 25 yard bullseye shooting is something that ain't gonna get better. Shooter fatigue after ten runs of a Circle drill likely means you're doing something wrong. Depending on a context, sometimes it is better to wrap up, and sometimes it is better to stay and work through your errors.

Thanks for the follow up. My lack of experience lends itself to asking too general a question.
I think I need to work More on Fundamentals and a specific training regime when I'm there as this is only 10-15 yard shooting

What drills are you doing to "work on fundamentals"?

Around here most people use: dot-torture (http://pistol-training.com/drills/dot-torture) to work on accuracy and consistency. I would venture to say almost everyone who reads this board shoots this (or some version of it) every time they are at the range.

You might want to balance this with a drill that encourages speed, like: bill-drill (http://pistol-training.com/drills/bill-drill) or circle-drill (http://pistol-training.com/drills/circle-drill) though you can go throiugh ammo pretty fast shooting a few of these.

Perhaps even better would be to shoot a drill that combines different size targets like changing-gears (http://pistol-training.com/drills/changing-gears) or 3-two-1 (http://pistol-training.com/drills/3-two-1)

I would suggest using the Pistol-Training.Com Targets (https://shopnational.omegacomminc.com/templates/detailnf_price.cfm?zq=44246362&uas=N&globaldesc=na&rnumb=462&wherefrom=SEARCH&whichord=1790&department=MI&class=N&special=R&sold=N&nextrow=Custom%20%22Q%22%20Target%20for%20Pistol-Training%2EcomQ-PT&prevrow=Custom%20%22Q%22%20Target%20for%20Pistol-Training%2EcomQ-PT&nextprev=0&subclass=PTCT&subname=na&pagename=Online%20Store%20%3E%20Miscellaneous%20Ta rgets%20Pistol%20Training%20Com%20Targets%20%3E%20 ) or PT.com targets (http://www.nationaltarget.com/cgi-bin/miva?Merchant2/merchant.mv+Screen=PROD&Store_Code=NT&Product_Code=Q-PT+(only+sold+in+bundles+of+100)&Category_Code=PT.com) (Different link with photo of old design). When I am not able to bring a box of targets to the range, I have a bunch of shoot-n-c (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Dsporting&field-keywords=shoot-n-c&rh=n%3A3375251%2Ck%3Ashoot-n-c) in my range bag (2" and 8") and I can stick them to any paper target.

I once took a class with Ken Hackathorn, he said that around the world, no one practices more than 200 rounds on a consistent basis.

How hard are you gripping your gun with your firing hand?

I've quite often seen shooters use a death grip on the gun with their firing hand and initially have good results, only to quickly deteriorate because of fatigue in their hand, tremors, etc.

Thanks for the great replies guys.

I'll check out those targets and start to refine my training schedule. That was just what I needed as far as building a plan of attack once I get to the range

I"m going to make more of a note of how hard i'm gripping with the firing hand. Thanks for that pointer

100 rounds is not a really long session so I doubt it is any physical fatigue. What I have seen in less experienced shooters - is something I explain to them as a "sophomore slump". They start out and have some success with improvement. Happy

Then they unconsciously think they have this shooting thing figured out and a mental edge is lost and they get sloppy and don't know it. Move them to a little dry fire, the coin or empty case on the front drill for a few, or to a .22 for some live fire - confirm fundamentals and then back on the centerfire live fire.

Eventually those fundamentals become ingrained and they don't fall off so easily. They are the downloaded program.

Just a couple cents worth.
