Switching to 9mm, but dept is only providing 1 box of ammo, which doesn't go very far towards filling all the extra mags I keep in my car/gear. I'm looking for at least 2 cases, anyone "know a guy?" I'd rather not pay Gunbroker prices, and the guy I normally use is limiting orders to two boxes.

I'm not seeing 124+p, but I found this link to the regular 124gr HST. The multiple/bulk discount blurb suggests that they may have it in quantity:
http://www.rareammo.com/federal-premium-le-9mm-124gr-hst-tactical-hp-50-rnds

124+p GDHP. How much they have is unknown: http://www.ammunitiondepot.com/CCI-Speer-9mm-124-Grain-P-Gold-Dot-Hollow-Point-p/53617-a.htm

Everything else I've seen, via independent searches and through GunBot/AmmoSeek, stuff's either unavailable or is $.80+ to $1.50/round.

EDIT: I've not ordered through rareammo.com before, but Ammunition Depot is okay.

Jeremy, our local cop shop has the state Federal ammo contract. They are still limiting officers to two boxes. :(

I see HST available through SGAmmo.com frequently.... Although no 9mm in stock currently. Might be worth a phone call to see if they're expecting anything soon??
9x19: http://www.sgammo.com/catalog/pistol-ammunition/9mm-9x19
9x19 HST: http://www.sgammo.com/product/federal/50-round-box-9mm-luger-federal-hst-147-grain-hollow-point-le-ammo-p9hst2
(there's a notify link on that page)

In case anyone is looking for .40... Here's their link for .40 HST (http://www.sgammo.com/product/federal/50-round-box-40-hst-180-grain-federal-hollow-point-ammo-p40hst1) (288 x 50 round boxes in stock).

ETA: These guys are showing "in stock". Never did any business with them, so.. caveat emptor.

52 boxes of 50 reported in stock here: http://bestammoprices.com/9mm-147-gr-federal-hst-hollow-point-le.html

Thanks for the help guys. My dept authorizes ONLY Speer 124 +P and Fed HST 124 +P. 115's and 147's are not an option.

Very welcome..
Just wanted to make sure you found the 124's at AD.
My previous link's were both 147's.

The last couple of times I have bought ammo, and we issue/authorize the 124gr +P Gold Dot, was from SG Ammo and Kyle's Gunshop.

Our department makes bulk duty ammo buys from Ultramax, I'm not sure if they might be able to help you out.

GT Distributors and Streichers are other possible sources

I know a guy, me, and I'm here local to you  Shoot me a PM with your info and we'll go from there.

Now, about that speeding ticket...

ETA - I double checked and I have both Gold Dot 124+P and Ranger T 147, although you said that's not an option.

Neither is currently in stock but I have bought the fed load from tds-us.com. I'd get on their list.

GT Distributors has been getting a decent load of ammo put aside for LE only. I'm not sure how ordering ammo from them online goes, but reaching them on the phone shouldnt be an issue.

TDS is who I normally go through, but they can't accommodate me. I also spoke with GT Distributors, they were a no go also.

Irish - PM sent!

Last vendor I saw who had cases of Speer Gold Dots was Ammoman but right now they are only showing Remington Golden Saber in stock.

Thread drift, but I'd love to find some 147 ranger t-series. It's been impossible around here lately.

If it's for duty carry and is an urgent need I can help provide some, let me know.

I was able to spare 200 rounds of Gold Dot +P for A62335 but if anybody has another good source for a "quantity" order feel free to post it.

Nothing so dire. Just prefer it to HST 147 for the slightly improved recoil impulse.

Thanks to everyone that chimed in here, and big thanks to Irish for getting me up and running. I was able to chase down a case of 124+P GD, so once that arrives I'll replace what I borrowed from Irish, and throw him a 6 pack or two of some adult beverages.

I love it when a good plan comes together....

Walked into the armory yesterday to pick up my 1 box of issued 9mm ammo, and started talking with our head firearms guy. He informed me that there is a policy change currently in the works to switch from 124+P to 147 standard pressure ammo. So, that gorgeous case of 124+P Gold Dots that got delivered yesterday will forever sit in my safe. At least 147 HST is easy to find, and cheaper than Gold Dots. And, being the nice guy that he is, firearms guy gave me a couple extra boxes of ammo to offset the $$$ I just wasted on ammo I can't use.

I mean, how will they know?

Pull bullets, weigh them and write you up?

Say you have an OIS. are they going to weigh any recovered slugs? For just over 20 grains difference? After its hit it's target?

Speer +P cases rather than Federal non +P cases. The 124+P Gold Dot and the 147 HST are both excellent 9mm rounds and it seems as if the HST is slowly being accepted by LEA's.

"Slowly being accepted"???

For nearly the past decade, HST's have been the most commonly used handgun loads out here, followed by the Ranger Talon and Gold Dot.

Not a risk I am willing to take. In addition to not wanting to take the slim chance of having to testify about why I wasn't using dept. issued/approved ammo in an OIS, I also don't want to have to deal with the Lt./Capt. should they decide to do a random weapons inspection. I'll roll with the ammo in my car as extra in case WWIII breaks out somewhere, but I won't use it until all of my 147's are expended. It's a moot point now anyways, there is a case of 147 HST on it's way to me as we speak, thanks to the guys at Salt Lake Wholesale.

Limiting a department to only one duty ammo choice nowadays isn't really smart. Even a department can guarantee they will get their chosen ammo when they need it. Best to have an alternative.

Being the guy responsible for making sure duty ammo shows up and gets delivered I have a pretty good idea what it takes to get that done.
Back in 2006 we couldn't get our chosen 124gr +P Gold Dot, so we ended up with 124gr +P Ranger-T instead. You know what? It still worked.

If I had a PD I would issue ammo but allow anything on Doc's duty ammo list as authorized.

Doc, Nationwide or on the West Coast?. Nationwide I thought it would be Gold Dot, Ranger T then HST.

Out here would be the west coast.

From what what I gather HST is more popular on the West Coast than Nationwide. I like HST but I can find Gold Dot much easier as that is what most LEA's in this area use and Gold Dot is stocked at a LGS.

Gold Dot works great--I'd have no problem using it if that is what I was issued or could get in quantity for a reasonable price.
