A federal judge ruled Monday that the New York Police Department violated the civil rights of New Yorkers with its broad "stop-and-frisk" policy, in a blow to the Bloomberg administration.

Unfortunately the decision was not made plainly on 4th-A grounds, but rather "racial profiling"
Will be interesting to see what happens to crime rates.

Yeah, the crimes rates could see a spike. Then again, it could also lead to attempts by NYPD to even up the ratio a bit by stopping more Caucasians. o_O

I don't think that there'll be a significant change in the apparent SOP. If complaints were filed about this behavior and policy as far back as '99, and the warnings were ignored as well, it's probably deeply ingrained now. Call me a pessimist, but IMO the old adage about "the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior" seems just about perfect for this case given the political climate in NYC. :mad:
