Range Report: Glock 26 Gen4

Hey All,
I bought a used Glock 26 Gen4, which reportedly had about 400 rounds through it.

It appeared NIB when I got it, with no finish wear on the barrel hood or top of barrel.

This might be the most boring range report EVER.....
ZERO MALFUNCTIONS AND VERY POSITIVE EJECTION!

Ammo: American Eagle 124gr FMJ & Speer Gold Dot 124gr +P
I fired over 350 rounds in one session, and had super accuracy (hitting clay pigeons from 7 to 30 yds) and no drama.

I loved the positive ejection pattern, with no brass to face/head. ( I think the 124 gr ammo allows for snappier slide action, eliminating any weak ejection.)

Sights are: Ameriglo Hack with the Orange-in-day/Yellow-in-dark front and solid black U rear. Fast sight picture and with a blacked-out rear sight, I find it much easier to keep both eyes open while shooting (sometimes three dot system makes it hard for me to obtain fast sight picture without closing one eye.....something I do NOT want to do in an actual gunfight)

I have GAP floorplates installed and also utilized some G17 mags for spray and pray fun!

I was also breaking in two new holsters this weekend:
Comp-Tac Infidel Ultra (highly recommend this one: http://www.comp-tac.com/product_info...roducts_id=261
and a TT Gunleather PhoenixII (always excellent products from TT)

Brought it back home, cleaned it up, and ready for concealed carry work.

That's whatI'mtalkin' about! Nice review. I really like my Gen 4 26 too. Do you shoot many of the PF common drills? I'd like to hear how they go with this sub compact. I've generally found on drills out to 10 yards its tough to measure a gap between my shooting with a 26 or a 19/17.

Mine needed a tall .250 front sight (I went with 10-8 tritium) to get poi to poa as it hit very high with the Trij HD I first tried on it. But quite a few of our G's exhibit that.

In my limited experience with this mode (I usually opt for IWB or AIWB) it can be done but it's very "user's tolerance" dependent as the 26 is on the upper limits of weight and bulk of what can be done with substantial front pockets.

My experience with pocket carrying a G26 went as follows:

Shortly after I bought my G26 I decided to try pocket carry, disregarding the common internet advice, because when unloaded and unholstered it didn't feel too heavy or bulky in my cargo shorts front pocket. I bought a quality kydex "taco" pocket holster and began practicing drawing. It was nearly impossible for me to draw my G26 without it coming out of my pocket with the holster still attached. This issue may be fixable with a different holster but I'm not inclined to try.

Another problem I encountered is that a loaded, holstered G26 is significantly heavier and more bulky in the pocket than a unloaded and unholstered G26. Loaded and holstered it looked and felt like I was carrying a brick in my pocket. It was very apparent I was carrying something large and heavy. Determined to give it a fair shake, I went out on some errands and quickly discovered that the brick in my pocket was now pounding against my thigh with every step. After a short time it went from annoying to uncomfortable, and I think that walking around all day would eventually become painful. I didn't try running, but from my experience with walking I suspect that running would also be difficult.

I got home, packed up the holster in my box 'o holsters and haven't pocket carried my G26 since. Once was enough. For me strong-side IWB in a quality holster is much more comfortable, permits easy moving, and is far more discrete.

I expected pocket carry of my G26 to be effortless and convenient, and discovered that for me it most definitely was not. As JHC said it is most definitely "user's tolerance" dependent.

I have been pocket carrying a g26 for 10 years in cargo pants or cargo shorts. I use a Galco PH286. After a while you will get used to the weight.

It is the bulk more than the weight. I consider a Kahr PM 9 size gun a pocket pistol.

I pocket a G26 almost daily, it greatly depends on the type of shorts you wear. Anything with internal pockets makes it more difficult but if you wear shorts with deep external pockets it's very easy to pocket carry the G26.

Look for Hook & Tackle® Men's Original Beer Can Island® Short on Amazon or Columbia Men's Brewha Shorts, both of those work very well for pocket carry of the G26. Both company's make additional shorts that will also work but those are the two I've used and still do.

I use a kydex pocket holster from Talon Tactical with a hook that catches the pocket and breaks up the shape of the pistol. It looks like you use a front pocket wallet or have a cell phone case in your pocket. Buy a good belt, I'm using a Wilderness frequent flyer that works extremely well.

I bought a brand new 26 G4 two weeks ago before going on vacation. I had time to clean and lube it and fire 80 rounds of old 147 grain Hydra Shok thru it before leaving. I must also report a completely uneventful range session. This one worked out of the box like every other Glock I've ever bought or had issued.

Arborwear Original Tree Climbing Pants, similar to Carhartts but got a better cut and a gusset crotch. I have some their Estimator pants and the pocket isn't as deep so you can peak and see some grip.

These pants were a small revolution for me, got rid of all the 5.11 stuff which was wearing too quickly anyway and I thought called me out as a gun guy. All the pants fit 1.75" belts. Double knees make me happy.

I recognize the GAP floorplate. What is the other extended floorplate? Thanks.

Appears to be a Scherer magazine extension on the Glock, I prefer the OEM Glock magazine extensions..

Me too. I have them on all my G26 Gen 4 magazines. Mine has Glock night sights. I like the Hack sights, though. I have them on another pistol.
