Is anybody here a fan of bluegrass? I am trying to expand my music collection a bit. I've been really in love with Tony Rice and Darrell Scott lately. James McMurtry too. Here are just a few songs I've been looping lately, really great for late summer afternoons.

Not sure if JM qualifies as bluegrass strictly, but he is 100% awesome for sure.

I am fan for sure. Tend to like any kind of bluegrass but really enjoy flatpicking style of guitar (I include Tony here. He is THE man when it comes to flatpicking in my opinion).

I've been wanting to expand some of my guitar-playing options to a bit of bluegrass. Had the opportunity to sit down with a great fiddler a while ago and jam for a bit... felt bad because I didn't know any of the songs, but at least it's just two chords most of the time anyway so I could pretend to keep up!

I'm a fan. While I enjoy many of the legends and traditional style, I admit that I prefer some of the more "modern" acts on the scene now such as The Infamous Stringdusters.

The last CD I picked up was "Melonie Cannon" by Melonie Cannon.
The one before that was a Crackerbarrel "Heritage Music Collection" CD "J.D. Crowe and the New South."
Good bluegrass on both.

I have a couple CDs by the Kenny & Amanda Smith Band. The one that came to hand is "Always Never Enough."

Need to get some more Alison Krauss.

I hadn't seen the acoustic version of Choctaw Bingo, that's pretty cool. "Live in '03" is a great album, periodically gets lots of play during drive time.
One of my good friends grew up in Kentucky, so bluegrass is a staple around his house once he gets into the Jack Daniels :D

I'm a beginning bass player, and have enjoyed the "All-Star Bluegrass Jam-Along" book and CD. Here's the guitar version: http://www.amazon.com/ALL-STAR-BLUEGRASS-JAM-ALONG-GUITAR/dp/1597731242

On the bass version, the bass drops out after the first time through so you can play along on your own. I'd think the guitar version would be the same.

For listening, the original "Will the circle be unbroken" album has some great playing. I especially like some of the instrumentals near the beginning of the second disk.

Have you found any good youtube channels or similar? I've gotten a *ton* of practice out of the martyzsongs networks/channels for blues/rock stuff.

Another Bluegrass fan here too. Doc Watson and The Del McCoury Band are my favorites.
