Took MAG-40 out at Sand Burr Gun Ranch last month. While I was there, I got a picture of Denny's BBQ gun, an engraved 629 (http://booksbikesboomsticks.blogspot.com/2013/07/gratuitous-gun-pr0n-59.html). (He shot all the competition he did back in the day, including Bianchi Cup, with his .44s stoked with duty loads. Dude can run a wheelgun.)

Need a better pic of the engraved, hip gripped 640.

My pro-N-frame bias is showing, innit? ;)

This (https://twitter.com/TamSlick/status/359009416332312576/photo/1) is as good as I got of the J frame.

(Incidentally, while I was there, Denny worked over the action on my 432 for me, gratis. He's been to Springfield three times for their armorer's school, and it shows. It's as nice a trigger as I've felt in a J with all stock parts.)

EDIT: The other cool thing is it's an old-school gun shop where stuff sometimes hangs around for a while and, as a result, the occasional Easter Egg can be found. I was sorely tempted by the NOS Alessi Guardian for K-frames hanging on the rack on the back side of the shop door with the faded $80 price tag on it. I need a shoulder holster for my Ks about like I need a hole in my head, but the turn-of-the-Millennium price was awfully tempting nonetheless. :o

Classy. Y'all are starting to rub off on me. I always looked at wheelguns as an antiquated design, clearly inferior to semi-autos. And while that may be so in a practical sense with modern service pistols, there's just something about a nice S&W or Colt wheelgun that's starting to speak to me. I got to handle a minty pre-M29 S&W .44 a few weeks back, and damn, I could really appreciate the little things that went into it. All the hand work, the matting, the polishing. It really was impressive. It makes me wondered what the old Registered Magnums were like.

Never owned one, but have handled a few and looked at photos of many more. Quality was out of this world. Beautiful, beautiful guns. They were like the National Match '03s (have owned a few of those) -- the best they could make at the time, and that was good. High on my list of "get before I die" guns.

This is actually my second, and I'm already trying to see if I can get a 586 all tooled up for SSR.

I though that ARs were bad..... HELP! I've fallen into a money pit and I can't get out!

The top shooter at last month's MAG 40 was rockin' a 586. Shot, like, 300/300 and a 598 or 599 on the tiebreaker; got a signed five-spot from Mas.

(At one point during the class I teased him "Dude, we've got plenty of masking tape; you can spread those holes out a bit if you want..." :D )

Color me impressed.

I whacked 11/16 with my 66 on the 6 Dot drill. :) I actually shot more consistently WHO than SHO, which should tell me something. I think.

I see some of the old smiths and old colts come through the shop I work in fairly frequently and they're really something else. The quality of those old guns are unsurpassed in today's market... They were massed produced hand made weapons... Something we dont see anymore. They came from an era when skilled labor was prevalent. I wish we could get back to those days. The smith revolvers I see in the case are a far cry from the 29-1 that came in on trade a few weeks ago.

Yes and no.

A Registered Magnum is beautifully hand-polished on the outside, all right, but comparing under the sideplates of it and a modern 627? Let's just say that the CNC machine didn't know you wouldn't be able to see the inside of the gun, while Seamus McPlantworker sure did. ;)

I should be getting my model 19 tomorrow or the day after depending on when the seller ships. I literally feel like I am 8, and it's christmas in July.

Any recommendations on a good leather holster for IDPA/carry? OWB, that is.

I'm trying to remember which of my K-frame holsters I didn't have to cut the thumb breaks off of... Bianchi's 5BH/BHL are nice, but have thumb breaks you can't really remove. DeSantis (if you don't mind that Mexican goat leather) makes (made?) one that the thumb break could be cut off in two minutes with a boxcutter.

Galco makes the Combat Master for the 4" K/L (I think the revolver version used to be called the "Speed Master", but whatever,) that doesn't have thumb breaks, but it gets all collapse-y on re-holstering sometimes, as pancake holsters without reinforcement around the mouth tend to do.

I'd imagine any of the semicustom houses like Sparks or Rosen or whoever offer their stuff for the 4" K/L.

I carry my 4" K Frames in an OWB holster from Adams Holsters and I'm very happy with it.

0kay Tam, technical point well-made...but what is going to make you SMILE more like a leetle leetle girl, the externally perfect Registered Magnum, or the more pedestrian, but technically superior on the inside 627? :-)

Engraver for stainless SA revolvers?

Engraver for stainless SA revolvers?

I think the guy that did that 629 is somewhere in southern Indiana. Reasonable rates, too, IIRC. Call Denny at Sand Burr and ask him who it was; I do remember the number mentioned was such that I briefly thought about getting my 629 done...

Hush with all this engraving talk.
I have a line on a like new 66-2 2.5" for... wait for it... $300.
I'm supposed to meet the guy tonight and look it over.
I could have a pimping BBQ gun... for CHEAP!

I was at the gym and this guy told me he was selling a revolver and asked if I was interested.
He showed me a few pics on his phone and it was all I could do to keep my poker face when his asking price was $350.
I offered $300 if everything checks out on it... he accepted.

I still believe my Model 19 4" is the cat's Meow for a personal defense revolver. My IDPA rig most recently has been one of the Safariland Custom Fit holsters with both a paddle and belt loop included in the package. I have been using the belt loop version. In addition I have a Fobus paddle that is an amazing rig. Works great. Not a Fobus fan in general but this one is a gem.
