What's the best place to send a Glock for RMR milling? I know "best" is pretty subjective, but surely there are enough rmr equipped guns that some top tier work has shown itself.

David Bowie in Ohio (http: www.bowietacticalconcepts.com/index.html), Mark Housel at L&M Precision Gunworks, LLC in Prescott, AZ (http://www.landmprecisiongunworks.com), and Doug Holloway at American Tool & Engraving in MI (www.ateiguns.com) have done innovative work mounting RDS's on a wide variety of pistols.

Cool!! Thanks guys. I was looking at the L&M site. Their G19 package deal looks pretty good. I may go that route.

Doc,
You seem to be pretty experienced on this subject. Any durability issues with the red dots? Is there one you would recommend over another?

+1 on Mark at L&M. He has done several pistols for me. His turnaround is speedy and the work is world class.

We recently completed a 3 year evaluation of RDS equipped pistols in LE use.

Several RDS were tried, including the Trijicon RMR, micro-Aimpoint, as well as Dr Optic, ITI mRDS, and Leupold Deltapoint. After evaluating the available mini-RDS options, the Trijicon RMR was selected as the primary optic for testing. In early 2010, six RMR02 8MOA sights with 4 digit SN’s were installed on the milled slides of four Glocks and 2 M&P’s. These six original RMR02’s now have in excess of 12,000 rounds fired through each one with no RDS failures. Battery life has ranged from 33 mo to 39+ mo of continuous use. Unfortunately this exact model RMR is no longer manufactured.

In early 2011, eighteen adjustable intensity RMR-A’s (RMR06 & RMR07) with 5 digit SN's were were added to the testing. Several of these later RMR’s had trouble holding windage--typically moving 8-10 clicks clockwise over a few hundred rounds of shooting. Unlike the original RMR02’s, NONE of the later RMR’s lasted beyond 5000 rounds and quite a few failed under 2000 rounds. Trijicon immediately repaired each failed optic. Trijicon is clearly aware of the issue, is in the process of identifying failure points, and is instituting engineering changes to increase robustness and durability of the RMR’s. Until those modifications reach production in the next few months, plan on your RMR breaking at some point--send it back to Trijicon and they will repair it, likely with the new upgraded parts.

Does the RMR red dot disappear when using a light at night.

I know this can be a problem.

I have not had that issue over the past 2 years with either of mine (old 8moa RMRs) on either of my Glocks.

Have not seen it to be a major problem with the battery operated RMR's--the self-illuminating were another story...

This past Friday I just picked up a G34 from Mark at &M Precision in Prescott. He machined the slide, had Robar refinish it with NP3+, and installed suppressor sights, I could not be happier with his work quality, customer service, pricing, communication, and quick turnaround. Highly recommended!

I've been very impressed with David Bowie's work. His attention to detail is outstanding.

Mark Housel at L&M did the mill job for a rmr on a G17. He also installed suppressor sights for me. Price, communication, and craftsmanship were all great! No regrets

I will never use anyone other than Mark H, He's THAT good of a dude. In fact, while I'm thinking of it, need to go give him some free advertising.
