Week 74: PAR for Distance
results may be posted until 11:59pm EST on Friday 26-July-2013.
Range: varies
Target: IPSC A-zone, IDPA -0 zone, or 8.5x11 sheet of paper
Start position: holstered
Rounds fired: varies
This week's DotW is inspired by the recent discussion of different scoring systems (http://pistol-forum.com/showthread.php?8740-Time-Plus-and-how-fast-is-fast-enough) and how they impact training.
You will need a shot timer or other way to manage a consistent PAR time for this drill. PAR time is three seconds.
Begin holstered facing the target at a distance of seven yards. On the buzzer, draw and fire five rounds at the target within the 3-second PAR.
If you miss any shots or fail to fire all five shots within three seconds, you are done.
If you get all five hits within three seconds, increase the distance to ten yards and repeat. Continue to add distance in whatever increments you wish until you suffer a miss or go over the PAR time. The PAR time remains constant. If you reach the maximum distance of your range facility and still get all five hits in under three seconds, congratulations... you need to find a deeper range.
If your range will not allow shooting from a holster begin from a ready position of your choice and fire SIX rounds per iteration instead of five.
Please report the following when you post your results in this thread:
starting position (ready, competition holster, duty holster, or concealed)
gun & holster used
maximum distance achieved before a miss or going over PAR
Training with firearms is an inherently dangerous activity. Be sure to follow all safety protocols when using firearms or practicing these drills. These drills are provided for information purposes only. Use at your own risk.
