Week 74: PAR for Distance
results may be posted until 11:59pm EST on Friday 26-July-2013.

Range: varies
Target: IPSC A-zone, IDPA -0 zone, or 8.5x11 sheet of paper
Start position: holstered
Rounds fired: varies

This week's DotW is inspired by the recent discussion of different scoring systems (http://pistol-forum.com/showthread.php?8740-Time-Plus-and-how-fast-is-fast-enough) and how they impact training.

You will need a shot timer or other way to manage a consistent PAR time for this drill. PAR time is three seconds.

Begin holstered facing the target at a distance of seven yards. On the buzzer, draw and fire five rounds at the target within the 3-second PAR.

If you miss any shots or fail to fire all five shots within three seconds, you are done.

If you get all five hits within three seconds, increase the distance to ten yards and repeat. Continue to add distance in whatever increments you wish until you suffer a miss or go over the PAR time. The PAR time remains constant. If you reach the maximum distance of your range facility and still get all five hits in under three seconds, congratulations... you need to find a deeper range.

If your range will not allow shooting from a holster begin from a ready position of your choice and fire SIX rounds per iteration instead of five.

Please report the following when you post your results in this thread:

starting position (ready, competition holster, duty holster, or concealed)
gun & holster used
maximum distance achieved before a miss or going over PAR

Training with firearms is an inherently dangerous activity. Be sure to follow all safety protocols when using firearms or practicing these drills. These drills are provided for information purposes only. Use at your own risk.

Concealed
SACS/Warren 9mm 1911 in JMCK aiwb, untucked polo

Success: 7yd, 10yd, 12yd, 15yd

At 18yd I was late on the last shot. For giggles I reshot at 18yd and scored all five hits in time.

Then I moved out to 20yd and was over time, had a miss, or both EIGHT TIMES in a row. Sad panda.

Fricke Gideon OWB, Filson vest

yes at 7, 10, 12 and 15 yards. At 18, I went one out at 2.58, suggesting I wasn't using time available well.

I can't remember when I have shot more than 2 rounds at a target beyond 7 yards, so this was great practice.

Probably shouldn't have done this after ROing a two-gun match on a classic NC July day. That's the excuse I'm using, anyway. Certainly not my best showing and this is something I need to work on.

Start Position: Competition holster
Gun/Holster: M&P9/Bladetech OWB
Target: USPSA Metric A-zone

Clean at 7 yards in 2.16, 2C at 10 in 2.45. A second try at 10 yielded all hits but in 3.34.

gen4 G19, Trij HD, 3:00 OWB, Speer Lawman 147 TMJ (53620), under an untucked tee shirt.

7yd: Success @ about 2.5 sec.

10yd: Lack of success. I opted for accuracy over speed and went over time. Attempts that didn't count showed I could shoot faster than I did, and probably should have just done so.

Smith & Wesson M&P9, Blade tech holster, open front concealment.
Target: 8 1/2 x 11 paper
Made 5 runs at 7 yards and could not get a clean run under par. Every time I had all 5 shots under par there was one miss. Best run was 4 hits in 2.89:(
